    Successful Fundraisers?

Most of that sort of thing is funded through the church budget. Every once in a while there's a fundraiser for one cause or another - the youth group raised some money to go on a mission trip, for example. Sometimes if an event is hosted in our hall we'll have a bake sale in the kitchen, that...

    Successful Fundraisers?

Overall I'd second what Josiah said. If I want to support a charity I'll give them some money rather than paying well over the odds for something I don't really want. The kind of "fundraiser" where I pay $15 for a product from some nearby business that's normally $8 but the extra goes, well...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

The last couple of days it has rained so today I went for a run. I started out not really wanting to go out at all, so setting a more modest pace than I have sometimes done. After about four miles I was juggling numbers to think about my 10k personal best time and figured I could add a loop to...

    why is CH so dead?

I have vague memories of the other site people are talking about. They had threads where people count. Seriously. They post "1". Then they post '2", then "3" and so on. It doesn't seem to serve any useful purpose other than to give them enormous post counts. One user I saw had a post count so...

USA Nancy P. says we need ''gotaways'', that's what illegals are called now, to pick the crops

It makes perfect sense. Pay your own people to not work, then bring in people from abroad to work. Nothing wrong with that, right?

    Would you buy a robot?

It would be cooler still if it knew when it needed to charge and plugged itself in.

What age did you first live alone?

There's a world of difference between the 26-year-old living in their parents' basement refusing to get a job because they "can't find anything suitable" while spending their days smoking pot and playing video games without contributing anything to the household, and the 26-year-old living in...

    What would you do?

Yep. It's easy to see how a woman in distress might look for someone who could give the impression she was protected, but she'd probably look for another woman rather than someone who might leave her in a worse state than the one she was hoping to escape. As a man I'd be cautious that she wasn't...

    What A Mess!

Can't think of anything specific relating to a spectacular mess, aside from the odd issue of vomit. Removing a dead shrew from a mousetrap that had been there for a couple of days in the height of summer wasn't a big mess but the smell of it made me want to wretch. Of course you can't remove a...

    Hybrids

I wouldn't say it disproves Scripture. Animals don't attempt to reproduce with animals of a totally different species. What we do in a laboratory when we tinker with DNA and splice random things together doesn't change the fact it would never happen without our intervention.

    How does it disprove Scripture?

    Pot smoking older teen?

Sooner or later he'll run out of money. Hopefully he won't get arrested before that happens. Ultimately if someone is an adult there's only so much you can do. It's easy to come up with reasons why help has to be endlessly extended for the sake of the baby but ultimately if the baby isn't safe...

Ladies or Men's Groups at your church?

Only social groups that are aimed at men or women. There's no specific reason why others can't attend, it's just not aimed at them. If a man wants to join the ladies' sewing group I don't imagine there would be any need to exclude him - he wouldn't even have to identify as female. Other groups...

    The clergy loophole

Sure, I just don't get that from the Bible. It seems to me that if you (generic you, not you personally!) believe the Bible you don't need the priest, and if you don't believe the Bible I wonder who it is that says the priest can forgive, if you believe that God cannot (or will not) forgive...

    Hybrids

Yes, we established that a few posts back. I already said that something that might never happen in nature might happen in the lab.

    The clergy loophole

It certainly isn't going to get any higher if they know the police will be involved. That's the bit I don't really get. If you believe what the Bible says you don't need someone telling you that you are forgiven. If you don't believe what the Bible says I'm not sure how a priest saying you are...

    The clergy loophole

Very true. I'd be curious to know how many people who have committed serious crimes would go to confess them to a priest anyway. Presumably the people who go to confessional believe they need to do something more than simply confess to God in private.

    Vote Democrat! Stop Hurricanes?

You wouldn't mean people like Barack Obama, who spent years preaching about climate change bringing on coastal storms and catastrophic rises in sea levels but apparently thought spending millions on oceanfront property was a good idea? If I believed in climate change causing catastrophic rises...

    Ohio abortions

I think the key trouble with most of the discussion about abortion is that so many people seem to think it's an all-or-nothing proposition. On one hand you have the people who just say "no, never, not happening" regardless of circumstance and on the other hand you have the people insisting that...
