Thoughts on punishment for those who abuse animals?

I'm not sure there's a lot about selection of animals for companionship that's random. Yes, some people prefer dogs, cats, rabbits etc. Not very many people decide to keep peacocks, rhinoceroses or emus as domestic pets. There may be a reason for this. As for which animals are good to eat I...

    Vaccinations in the 1960's

I suspect a large part of the issue is that individuals can see the world around them and can't see a larger collection of data. If you know someone personally whose child became a bit of an oddball right after getting a specific vaccine it's only natural that you'll be suspicious of the...

    Grocery Money

It's impossible to come up with a simple figure to say how much is appropriate. If your hosts are cooking steak and lobster every night it costs a lot more than if you're eating out every night. Sometimes other dynamics come into play. My wife and I have a couple of good friends and we...

The most valuable lesson you’ve learned in marriage

It's often better to be happy than to be right.

Thoughts on punishment for those who abuse animals?

A lot depends on how you define animal abuse. In some places it's considered abuse to leave an animal alone for more than a couple of hours. In others you can leave a dog chained outside for days at a time as long as you give it food and water. As with so much else it's a matter of degree.

Proof of God For Science Types

Except it proves nothing of the sort. Using a book to prove itself is circular reasoning. You could write any book you wanted that said it was undisputed truth and then use it to prove itself.

What are your thoughts on hot dogs?

I couldn't tell you the last time I had a boiled hot dog. I've eaten them grilled and fried, and also cooked in a crock pot. I very seldom eat them, usually only when a specific local store offers them as a freebie during sales.

The political party that you are

I believe in the government doing a lot more butting out and leaving people to get on with their own lives. Of the two major parties in the US it seems neither is desperately good at that but the Republicans are at least marginally better so I'd lean towards them.

How often do you Google your health symptoms?

Doctors can be wrong, and a good doctor would accept they don't know everything. A while back I did quite a bit of research into SSRI antidepressants, and in discussion with my doctor friend he said I probably knew more about that specific topic than he did (I'd expressed a view that he knew...

    A paper receipt

It depends on the item. If it's an ice cream then for as long as it takes me to unwrap it and eat it. If it's an electronic device then for as long as the warranty lasts, and then probably longer because it takes a while for them to get sifted through and thrown out.

How often do you Google your health symptoms?

True, although sometimes people research something and then want to argue with the doctor because they read something on Facebook. A friend of mine is a retired doctor and he's come across a lot of patients who refused to accept what he said because Facebook said something different. It made...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Trying to figure out how to reframe the walls in the room I gutted. I ripped all the featherboards off so now I'm back to bare concrete blocks, and nothing is quite straight. So I need to figure out where to put the walls to maximise the amount of space inside the room (i.e. limit the wastage...

How do you deal with mingle with "world people"?

Sure, why not? A lot of my friends are people I know from church. Some of my friends are people I know from outside of church based on some other common interest. Why should it be difficult to talk to someone who shares our interest in something, even if they don't share our faith in God? How...

How often do you Google your health symptoms?

You can get some solid information about health from reputable sources online but the trouble can still come when it comes to interpreting the information and comparing it. If you're reading an article listing 15 possible signs of a condition and you tick all 15 boxes the chances are your next...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

A gentle run today. Yesterday my suggested workout was at threshold level and I really wasn't feeling it, so I ran for an hour at very slightly over base level. My tracker registered it as a tempo level run but it must have been only just over the boundary between base and tempo. Today's...

    Covid Vaccine Damage

That's certainly a problem. Although if something does appear that is required for people to buy or sell it might certainly increase the level of interest in certain end-times prophecies.

    Covid Vaccine Damage

I saw an article that indicated a new vaccine would be recommended. I'm not sure the government will be able to require everyone takes it - it would seem to have all sorts of constitutional issues to overcome.

Highest amount you can spend on gadgets?

Depends who you mean by "they". Microsoft can't impose it on us unless we choose to install it. They can make it harder to get older versions but can't force me to upgrade my computer. The only reason I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 was because my development platform didn't support...
