The unwritten mysteries of the church.

The meanings are the same. In the first century "catholic" and "catholic church" were the same in meaning when referencing Christians. Today some Christians are not Catholics in the formal sense of full communicant membership in the Catholic Church but the majority are it appears from statistics.

The unwritten mysteries of the church.

The earliest recorded use of the word in association with Christians is in the letters of saint Ignatius of Antioch. Saint Ignatius wrote (some time around 100 AD) "Where the bishop is present, there is the Catholic Church" (To the Smyrnaeans 8:2) I think that is the first written use of the...

    My Choice for President

As far as I can tell (from a distance) the alleged shortcomings of Hillary Clinton (and all the other republican candidacy contenders) is more a matter of propaganda against her (and them) than anything real. PS: for those who complain about 'super delegates' let it be remembered that Hillary...

The unwritten mysteries of the church.

The meaning of the word "catholic" has not changed but those wanting to claim it as a label for their religious group may have changed. In ancient times Donatists wanted the name "church" but were not successful in claiming it. In the earliest part of Christian history there were many sects and...

I avoid CC and CF and ... because of their ruthless banning policies. As much as I dislike anti-Paul views I do not want them censored into silence.

The unwritten mysteries of the church.

One cannot help but think that Jones Town was in fact a place where history was eschewed - a place in which the teachings of the early Christians (like the teaching of saint Basil) was not followed but where the people chose to follow the teaching of their leaders without reference to the past...

I've tested some of the milk substitutes, none of which actually contains milk, and can't say any of them was yummy ... not even nice. I think I shall defrost some chicken drumsticks in the fridge today and use two of them tomorrow for a soup base. I may try using the meat with some kidney...

    When other Christians condemn

Naturally fermented wine made from sweet varieties of grape has alcohol content around 17% which is quite high. In the Greek/Roman world it was common to mix water with wine and that would reduce the alcohol content. In the Eucharist water is added to the wine (only a few drops of water) and...
