The 73 canonical books of Holy Scripture.

The motive behind suppressing the 7 books and parts of Daniel and parts of Esther is fear. Fear of what may be revealed. Fear of what may be taught. Fear of being rejected by one's denomination because of reading 'forbidden" books.

Apparently the New Testament is not more important for some participating in this thread. And since the new testament reveals what is hidden in the old testament if follows that if one's old testament is eviscerated some things will be forever hidden from the reader of the eviscerated old testament.

    Purgatory

How you see the scriptures that I quoted is not the issue. How Catholic Christians see them is what matters when the question is "what scriptures do Catholics use to teach/support their doctrine of purgatory?"

    Purgatory

It's in First Corinthians chapter three. It's also in the other passages I posted in my first reply to Romanos. Specifically in these passages Isaiah 4:4 When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit...

    Purgatory

For metals purging by fire burns away dross and dross is impurities in the metal. For medical conditions purging by surgery and by medicines is removing tumours, viruses, bacteria, and various infection agents these are impurities that cause the symptoms of illnesses. For the soul purging is...

But it is not that. It is not "extra purification/punishment for sin". Where'd you get that absurd idea?

    Brown people wrote the bible

Oh, sorry, it does explain what was going on in politics and that is where the anti-brown people stuff is happening, right? All the stuff about keep them Arabs, Mexicans, North Africans, Syrians, and Afghans out, and so forth. Protect our borders and put refugee claimants in detention centres...

    Brown people wrote the bible

Yes Ethiopians are black, and they were black back then and still are black now which is the point I think. The idea in the verse is that some things cannot be changed. If you're black then that's what you are. If your a leopard then that means you have spots and that will not change. If you're...

    Brown people wrote the bible

That's not quite true. Do you remember the verse about the skin of the Ethiopian? Jeremiah 13:23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin? the leopard his spots? As easily would you be able to do good, accustomed to evil as you are.

I am glad that you're back. Not glad of your unreformed opinion posts, but glad to see that you have rested a little and are ready to discuss topics. Now, back to the claim in your post. The claim is completely incorrect.

    Brown people wrote the bible

I heard former USA president Obama addressing people in South Africa on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Nelson Mandela. In his lecture he mentioned the many excellent documents written by people of "western" culture that are best regarded as the common heritage of humanity rather than...

    Brown people wrote the bible

What an odd spin to put on the topic. Brown people live in the USA too, don't they? Quite a lot of them say some. But the topic is not about "the USA". It is about who wrote the bible and makes the observation that the human authors were brown people. It is worth remembering that the...

    Purgatory

Evidently the passages in holy scripture do not convince you. Never mind. I provided them because that is what Romanos asked in the first post in this thread. Numerous saints referred to the following passages when discussing purgatory Isaiah 4:4 When the Lord shall have washed away the filth...
