So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Taking it a bit easier this morning. To do my work on the floor I had to move another cast iron radiator, and I think I twisted awkwardly with it because my back has a slight ache. I'm not sure if I moved awkwardly when shifting the radiator, or it was just a lot of getting up and down fiddling...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Do you have a nearby Staples, or can you get it online? I had to buy color cartridges for my laser recently. Not a pretty bill, but the cartridges had lasted me 9 years so I can't complain too much. I got mine from Staples, on the basis I could walk in and walk out with them rather than waiting...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

I figured out how to handle my floorboard situation. I drilled a hole near the edge of a board and ran my jigsaw along close to the edge, which let me cut a section out between two joists, repeated the process to get the bit between the next joists, and used a chisel to get the pieces nailed to...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

The current project involves making holes in the floor. I've got some floorboards that are badly splintered so I decided to cut them out and replace them. Cue figuring what boards I have that kinda-sorta match, and figuring how to remove a section of tongue-and-groove flooring such that I can...

how you should properly think when doing genetics

You didn't mention the timing of everything, which was the entire point of your quote. If the pre-trib rapture theory is wrong then it creates all sorts of problems. Not least the people who face the tribulation they thought would happen after they were safely whisked away. Of course there are...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

On a positive note one of the temporary fixes I implemented has worked. I laid some boards in a crawl space over the garage to support a drip tray. The roof leaks in heavy rain, and I need to have some support to put in something to catch the water. The long term plan is to replace the whole lot...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

I managed to move it a couple of feet so I could work behind it, which meant I could rip the wall apart and repair the brickwork behind it. Then I shifted focus to a different area while I figured out what to do with a radiator that weighs significantly more than I do. I don't think dragging it...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

I got a lamp rewired. We bought it from a local person several years ago and it needed some attention, so I replaced all the lamp holders and tightened everything up because it was getting a bit floppy. Then I tidied up a few other bits and pieces I'd started work on but never quite got to...

When people say I'm a Christian but...

If Jesus told us we would know people by their fruit how does that turn into the idea that we can't see the true fruit? We can't judge someone's heart but we can see if the fruit is rotten. Admittedly people can put on a good show so there's some merit to the argument that what looks like good...

When people say I'm a Christian but...

Only God can see the fruit? Jesus told us that we would know people by their fruit, so presumably we can see it too.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

It had a few challenges, although I managed to impress our friends when their 2-year-old refused to go to sleep and wanted to sit on my lap, so I talked very gently to him and slowly rocked him until he dozed off. It is handy living near to two state parks, so we could let the kids run on the...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

When we moved to our house we hosted friends with small children (5 and 2, if I recall) before we'd even completely finished unpacking. That was interesting. Lots of fun, but interesting in its own way...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

I managed to get a section of flooring cut, stained and put into place. It looks really nice. Then I finished off the soundproofing in the area, framed a new section of wall and finished up a couple of minor electrical jobs along the way.

Proof of God For Science Types

So what you're saying is that the "proof" is to pray? I'm not sure I'm the one who's not understanding the point here. If you want to prove the existence of God to "science types" you need, you know, proof. Self-referencing "proof" won't cut it with people who do science. Just for the record...

USA Serious question: How can a faithful Christian support the Democratic Party?

But it is exactly the topic. How would Jesus approach that scared young woman in line at the abortion clinic? Of course he wouldn't want her to go through with the abortion but I imagine he'd offer more than harsh words about killing babies, while shrugging off the very real needs that scare...

USA Serious question: How can a faithful Christian support the Democratic Party?

No, it speaks to the reality that life doesn't make it easy for a single woman to raise a child. Try finding a job that pays enough to cover your rent, when you can only work certain hours. If you're set up to be a single mother with a son, good luck if you find you need bigger accommodation...

USA Serious question: How can a faithful Christian support the Democratic Party?

People can only come as they are. It's not possible for someone to come as anything other than what they are. How will they know what Christ offers if their only experience of Christians involved feeling judged? This isn't just a theoretical construct, I personally know people who have been...

USA Serious question: How can a faithful Christian support the Democratic Party?

Hence my comment about things being generic. It's easy to say "don't have an abortion" but much less easy to offer a workable alternative. It's easy to say "you should have kept your pants on" but much less easy to help with the situation as of now.

USA Serious question: How can a faithful Christian support the Democratic Party?

I think with the abortion issue in particular it's very easy to claim to be "pro-life" while actually doing nothing more than demanding a pregnant woman give birth only to then use her motherhood as another stick to beat her with. It's easy to point fingers and tell someone what they did wrong...
