    Well, that's why I initially said it's God's word that brings us to faith, in that the Holy Spirit uses what we hear and read to bring us to faith. Those things we hear and read come from the Holy Bible, effecting faith within us due to the Holy Spirit's efforts.

    Not really. There are two ways to mean God's word...one is the scriptures and one is Jesus the Christ. When we are presented with the scriptures, the Holy Spirit works to bring men to faith by grace. Hebrews 4 discusses how God's word is alive and active by first talking about how the good news...

    I mean that God uses His word and by grace through faith (a gift given to us by God because His word is alive and active and does not return to Him empty) we believe what is true (that Jesus died and we are forgiven).

    High School Friends

    Do you ever meet up with any of your high school friends? I was able to meet with two of my best friends this summer and it's been amazing. We still find that we can connect and be comfortable with each other, and that's wonderful.

    I think I understand what you're saying in that despite what men may think, God will save them because salvation is by grace through faith, not by works.

    Could you clarify what you mean by "yes God still saves in these settings"? Do you think that there are things man has to do for salvation (justification)? You're marked as Lutheran, so I would think your answer would be no, but I'm curious what you believe.

    I guess I would start off with the definition of sin as "miss the mark". Then I'd explain how God is good and Holy and probably bring in the 10 commandments, since even unbelievers are somewhat familiar with the Christian commandments. I would want to find something that could help them...

    I've answered fully...especially in regards to the question of this thread... We contribute nothing to our salvation; it's God's work to save us. Justification is God's work completely. We cooperate in sanctification, but it's God's working within us for that too.

    The verses say that we are not alone in repentance. And I do not say we don't have to repent. Please, I really wish you would respect me more instead of putting words into my mouth and making these false claims about what you think I believe. I'm very clear on my beliefs.
