    The war of 1812

America won. :smirk: I love my country as much as you do yours, MC. I'll stand up for it, too. Actually, the Native Americans kind of came out as the big losers in this war, because after the dust settled, they didn't have much of a say regarding the fate of their own continent ever again...

    The war of 1812

Actually, the United States won from an American perspective. :) Battle of Baltimore, Battle of New Orleans, that kind of thing.

    the meaning of Baptism

Indeed. Would it not be more cruel to withhold God's saving grace given in Baptism from a child on the assumption that Baptism is a work we do, rather than the means by which God brings us into His family ( a.k.a. the Church)?

    Coffee, tea, and theology

Like Josiah, I too care about my family ( parents, daughter, extended family) and a passion of mine is to learn as much about their history ( on all sides) as humanly possible. I care about my faith and those things that influence my faith. I care about the environment and how human activity...

    The war of 1812

Of course, the Royal Navy stopped impressing American sailors after the war ended, so Madison got what he wanted. Ergo, America won. :P

    The war of 1812

There it is. I guess all nations downplay certain wars where they don't come up smelling of roses. The quote that got me laughing was that " both sides were happy at the end of the war because both sides believed they won." Here's a rousing cheer for antebellum status quo ! HIP, HIP, HOORAY...

    The war of 1812

In all fairness 9 and to keep things in balance), here is a point of view that those on the British side of the war might have offered: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/british-view-war-1812-quite-differently-americans-do-180951852/ There were a lot of conflicting emotions and grudges that...

    The war of 1812

Here's a link to an article dealing with the War of 1812 from an American perspective: http://www.pbs.org/wned/war-of-1812/essays/american-perspective/. There are many reasons that we're not taught too much about this particular war in our classrooms.

    The war of 1812

Yeah, well, it was one of our finer moments in a war that apparently " proved" to the rest of the world that our winning the Revolution wasn't a fluke and that we'd defend our sovereignty. Impressing American sailors onto British ships was hardly going to encourage peaceful relations after a war...
