    Happy Birthday Martin Luther

That's an irony of history. Luther vigorously disagreed with Zwingli and Luther's followers opposed Calvin ( except for Melanchthon and his students). I can see a statue of Martin Luther at Lutherstadt- Wittenberg, but an icon of him in Geneva? Wow.

    Happy Birthday Martin Luther

Oh, I don't know. I do know that I went out and bought Eric Metaxas' new book, Martin Luther: The Man Who Rediscovered God and Changed the World in honor of his 534th and it looks to be a good book. That's hardly going overboard ( as in, say, lighting candles or burning incense before a Martin...

    Happy Birthday Martin Luther

The man who sparked the Protestant Reformation by simply wanting to discuss certain ecclesiastical abuses and inspiring other luminaries to make their own efforts at reform as a result, Martin Luther was a Confessor and Renewer of the Church who truly brought things ad fontes, or back to the...

    Is God indifferent about denominations?

    **Sings** A-a-men, A-a-a-men, A-a-a-a- MEN!

    Is God indifferent about denominations?

Maybe a cosmic one.. as in, maybe people care a lot more about our differences than God does. :P

    Is God indifferent about denominations?

A Catholic, a Lutheran, an Anglican and a Presbyterian walk into a bar. They order their drinks and proceed to have a civilized discussion. That's what friends do.

    Snake Handling Churches

The thing is that their faith is so strong that they would...

    Snake Handling Churches

That is very true. Of course, God still is with us and He shows His Providence in many ways, including the occasional miracle, but the period covered by St. Luke in the Book of Acts was a history written to record God's activities among His people during the Church's infancy. Our experience is...

Ask a Christian - Pauline Christianity - a religion of the State?

I thought Kenneth Copeland was Word of Faith rather than Baptist.

    Snake Handling Churches

That's a very good point. I wonder how they reconcile their theology with that particular verse ( which crops up time and again in both Testaments).

    Snake Handling Churches

It really is. I mean, there are other denominations out there that seem to focus on certain verses while ignoring others, but these people are calling God out on what is recorded in the Gospel of St. Mark. I mean, literally risking their lives for their expression of faith. It's amazing. I think...

    Snake Handling Churches

Snake- Handling is a phenomenon that gained currency in parts of Appalachia, particularly as an expression of Christian devotion. This link will speak of the faith movement that has spawned today's churches that still use poisonous snakes in their services...

Many Protestants ( most Protestants, today, actually) are more of the Calvinistic/ Free Church persuasion than the Lutheran. I might have once said that you'll find that Catholics and Lutherans share many things in common on points of doctrine, although we have many serious differences.

Faith without works is dead and good works are an integral part of faith, as Dr. Luther has said more than once, himself. Here's his Treatise on Good Works: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/418/418-h/418-h.htm

Okay. :) Jesus is still our Savior and no matter how great our sins, His grace is greater. I think that was the point Dr. Luther was trying to make.
