    O.T. quotes in the N.T.

There appears to be a lot of interest in this topic. I thought it might be helpful to explore some examples. The first example comes from Matt. 4:10\Luke 4:8. Here is the N.T.: κύριον τὸν θεόν σου προσκυνήσεις καὶ αὐτῷ μόνῳ λατρεύσεις "The Lord your God you shall worship and him alone shall...

Early Christian writings along with the NT...

There is much that need to be unpacked in your post. It is too much for me to address all at once, so I would like to break it down more manageable bits. Sorry but I am not sure to which verbs you are referring. I am not sure where you are getting that idea about the Latin but we have copies...

It is close but it is not verbatim. You left out two phrases from your Luke citation: (1) "to set at liberty those who are oppressed" (Luke 4:18) and (2) "to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor" (Luke 4:19). Both are part of the text, quoted by Jesus, and important. The only way to really...

Yes I know, but asking about something else. I was asking how the N.T. quotes the LXX. Thanks

Early Christian writings along with the NT...

Thank you for your answer. Sorry to bother you again but I am trying to understand your view clearly. I do not want to read anything into your position. Do you think that O.T. LXX quotes found in the N.T. are verbatim?

There are some problems with your comment. First, you state "few agree on the basics." That is not what author wrote. Your rephrasing of the author's comment gives a false impression. Second, I was only addressing one issue, the Greek in the book of Hebrews. That was my only focus which I...

Early Christian writings along with the NT...

The Greek in the book of Hebrews is anything but wooden or strained. It is one of the best example of Greek in the N.T. Any scholar who knows Greek agrees on that point. "And while everyone recognizes in Hebrews a Greek of unusual elegance (for the NT), rhetoric of exceptional polish, and an...

Did Jesus establish the canon of scripture?

The Babylonian Talmud is the only Jewish document that lists the books by name. There are a couple of points to note. First, in the Babylonian Talmud this is a baraita. That means it is a tradition not incorporated in the Mishnah. However the phrase "Our Rabbis taught" is the standard phrase...

Did Jesus establish the canon of scripture?

That is rather pointless given the fact there are already "long threads" on the topic.

Did Jesus establish the canon of scripture?

I never suggested simply because an expert says something it cannot be questioned, so I don't know where you are getting that idea. As for the scholars I referenced, they supply reasons\evidence for the views they hold. They don't just state "believe us because we are experts." No one should...

Did Jesus establish the canon of scripture?

The book Malachi doesn't give us any specific time reference nor is he mentioned anywhere else in the Bible. The general consensus among scholars place him after the books of Zechariah and Haggai.

Did Jesus establish the canon of scripture?

I know my post has nothing to do with your question concerning the canon, but there is a problem with something you said. In Matthew 23 Jesus identifies that Zechariah as the son of Barachiah. Zechariah 1:1 places the beginning of his prophecy "in the second year of Darius" (i.e. Darius I...

    Origen Here!

True, but he has also been blamed for may things he did not believe or have anything to do with. He has been and is a scapegoat for many. He is like Constantine in that regard.

    Origen Here!

He is considered by many to be the first scholar of the early church. He was one of only two in the early church, the other being Jerome, who knew Hebrew. His Hexapla was an extremely important work and was consulted by Jerome. "Contra Celsum" is relevant even in our time. Many of the...

    Rep ends prayer in ignorance

That is very sad. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler took to Twitter to note that the word amen is "Latin for ‘so be it.’" While the word does come to us through Latin (i.e. Hebrew - Greek - Latin - Old English), the word "amen" comes from Hebrew. It is a transliteration of the Hebrew word (i.e. אָמֵן).
