I don't mind driving up to a certain point. Driving 11-12 hours in one day is really hard though takes the joy out of a road trip.

What's the longest you've driven in one day?

When I was first learning to drive, I loved it. Now, not so much. LOL. I only drive by necessity, never for pleasure.I can drive long road trips, but would rather be driven.

On the open road I quite like to drive.

In heavy traffic or with unyielding and unreasoning enforcement of arbitrary numbers I don't like it so much.

I drove in central London a handful of times. Not a lot of fun. Once was about 10pm on a Friday night, not the kind of time I'd normally want to run the gauntlet of city traffic combine with unlit cyclists, drunk pedestrians, possibly drunk unlit cyclists etc. The only reason I drove in was because a good friend needed to get to the bedside of a family member who wasn't expected to survive the night and they didn't want to deal with having to park and the associated concerns (cost, time required etc). So I drove them in and dropped them off.

What was really fun was when I flew into Philadelphia and picked up a rental car there. Of course by the time I got in the car and tried to get out of town it was 5pm on Friday and I was driving an unfamiliar car, on unfamiliar roads, with everything the wrong way around, in the rush hour traffic. For good measure I was driving something much bigger than I was used to - it felt like I needed a telescope to see the back of it (it was a Ford Explorer, which isn't huge by US standards but you don't see many of them on English roads). That was interesting. Although as it happened the heavy traffic was more of a blessing than I first realised, because it gave me chance to get used to the car before there was any expectation to be moving at normal expressway speeds.

I've driven in Philly and it's not a problem for me :) Of course when my GPS decides to take me to a bad part of the city it becomes a panic as I tell my daughter, "DO NOT EVER tell Grandpa about this!"

Newark, New Jersey is challenging to say the least. Especially downtown. Pontiac, Michigan is not too bad if you can navigate the Michigan left. LOL.

I think the part I was on was I-95 heading out of town, many lanes of more-or-less stationary traffic, in the dark, wondering whether staying in the far right lane is a sound strategy given sometimes a filter lane appears and sometimes the lane breaks off.

Driving from Brooklyn through NYC to get out to Jersey City in the dark and freezing rain was interesting, with a GPS with a patchy data connection, when it tried to route me down a road that was blocked by six police cars with their lights flashing and didn't seem interested in finding an alternative route.

Many years ago I lived around that area and the biggest nightmare I experienced was by far the Skuylkill expressway, accidents there every day, a very dangerous highway

I had lessons but it was a crook. My dad paid for lessons and then you could get the license but then theyd let people take more and more lessons to get more money and wouldnt let you take the exam, so I stopped. Other girl I knew paid a lot and had court and all that. I bike. Driving is way too dangerous anyway cause even on my bike I dream away and am like: what does he want? when someone comes from the right.
I had an exam twice few years before that but then I stopped too. There came a truck and I didnt even see it lol. Better for my kids to not have mom drive em around.

I do most of the driving and especially if its a long trip I'd just prefer to drive as not. But if you think it's bad in the States Italy was CRAZY! Luckily I didn't have to drive there but I still had white knuckles Lol!

What's the longest you've driven in one day?

For me the longest was a little over 600 miles. My wife and I had been visiting Kentucky during a trip to PA and didn't realise just how far it was to get back. We loaded up the car fairly early, hit the road and the GPS said "609 miles to destination". A sinking feeling followed, prior to that the furthest I'd ever done in one sitting was 450 miles. But we figured we might as well set off and stop overnight if it proved to be necessary (it didn't, the drive took a little under 11 hours).

What was really nice about it was that I got to drive end-to-end across West Virginia in October when the leaves were stunningly beautiful and there was sufficiently little traffic on I-64 that I could take in the views.

I like to drive on a nice sunny day. It's especially nice on a hot summer's day - my car is air conditioned :)

Oh yes Italy and Greece, those mopeds driving like idiots on those dangerous roads oh and England was crazy. I was with my mom in a car from a girl who drove us. The wheel was on the other side and they drove left. We were yelling LOL.
America and Canada was relaxed, but I had to watch the map closely, cause if you missed one turn it took long to get back. Really handy there, everything was rectangular and with North South East West, really handy to read a map there.
