There are some foods that people consider unhealthy but are surprisingly healthy...depending on how you cook/bake them! Pizza for instance. My daughter's dietician said that if you load up the pizza with veggies and don't put a lot of cheese on (or heavy crust) that it's an extremely healthy meal.

What other foods do people think are not healthy but CAN be?

Hi, Lamm...
Thanks for the reminder. Coming up on piroghies time. I hope to make lots this year, so I have to get preparing soon. And of course, all the health food that goes with them ..... kielbasa, cabanos, hrudka, pogache, hard-boiled eggs, and an Easter ham. :) And don't forget ..... beans are good for you.

Good quality chocolate is also high in phenylethylamine, which the body produces when you're in love.

Curiously the Beatles' song never went along the lines of "all you need is a good bar of high quality dark chocolate, la la la la la". I don't suppose it really flows.

A burger can be at least reasonably healthy. If it's made from the kind of cuts that it's best not to ask too many questions about (the kind that even after however many levels of profit are taken can still be sold for 99c at McDonalds) the chances are it has little to no nutritional value. But a burger made from lean meat, served on a wholewheat bun with fresh lettuce and maybe a slice of fresh tomato, isn't necessarily such a bad option. I'd skip the tomato though, can't stand the things.

On a flip side to the original question, sometimes things that appear healthy may not be as healthy as they look. It's surprising to see commercially available fruit smoothies that have more sugar in them than a Coke, and sometimes too much citrus juice can be damaging to the enamel on our teeth.

I found it quite bizarre to find that eating grapefruit (or drinking grapefruit juice) can interfere with some medications. A while back I read a report about someone who was being told off by their doctor for taking much more than the prescribed dosage - they insisted they followed the dosage accurately but there was so much of whatever the drug was in their system that they were obviously taking many times the correct dosage. It turned out that something in the grapefruit juice was interfering with their liver's ability to process the drug, hence it accumulated in their system. All it took was the glass of grapefruit juice they enjoyed with their breakfast.

I have a friend who once said that she was feeling fatigued - and supposed it was due to lack of vegetables. So her answer? She thought a burger would be nice, because it has lettuce. Her daily veggie, lol.

My son once had to go to the hospital. They wanted to check him cause he was so small and didnt eat good.
She checked him. I told her his dad was not the regular Dutch heighth but only 165. Oooh then it was okay. He grew well. No problem.
To celebrate the fact he ate so bad but still managed to grow anyway I said: Yaaay! Let's celebrate that!
and he got an icecream with 3 smurf ice cones at the hospital lol.

It certainly does, as long as you throw away the bit that came from McDonald's before eating.
