Does profession of Christian faith change personal character?

Is it safe to marry, date, keep company, form a close friendship with a person because they profess faith in Jesus Christ or is their personal character a better guide in making decisions about persons with whom you can safely associate?

If you are truly in Christ then things change about you but if someone says they are a Christian and the fruit doesnt bear it out then I would say no it is not a good thing to do

both and actions speak louder than words and someone can have a great noble character and be very christian, but I tend to protect those. One guy he was really nice and friendly and decent and christian, but he had no kids and had never been married. Spoke to him 2 years ago on a dating site. I said: you have no idea, you won't be able to keep up with this. Lol if my ex all of a sudden moves you can follow him and quit your job and all of a sudden 3 kids that are not yours, hmmm if I were you I'd go for someone without an ex and kids.
A close friendship, I don't have close friendships. Girls always left when they got a boyfriend or married. It's no use and with a guy I can't have a close friendship because I will inevitably crush and when he gets a wife I can't talk to him anymore. So the only close friend I have is my brother.

And hanging out with people, just friends, I rather hang out with my non christian collegues than with christians who can't talk normal but hateful all the time. I wanted to post on that other christian forum, read some stuff, I can't stand that atmosphere anymore and if an atheist asks a question he gets banned.

Catholic people seem quite different from the description you give.

On christian chat forums if new people came they got warned to not go to the Bible discussion forum. The other was a heretic, so that gave them the right to just beat them up and name call.

Yes, heresy based name calling and other kinds of name calling are common. But what is one to do when the person is in fact a follower of heresy?

Show what's wrong about it. One guy preached grace there all the time, but he said things that were dangerous and unbiblical, so I friendly showed him from the Bible: hey look, this verse says the opposite. I guess it's best though to stay out of those discussions, unless God tells you to say something. Timothy shouldn't fight, but just show them friendly and simple, but he was a pastor.
Now anyone feels God called them to heresy hunt.

1. IMO, it's important to note that it's actually HERESY and not simply something "out of bounds" in a denomination (what Protestants sometimes called "unorthodox"). IMO, "heresy" is something clearly and officially declared such in one of the Seven Ecumenical Councils; a clear, obvious, official, historic, ecumenical declaration as opposed to "the modern RCC or LDS or UCC or UPC denominations don't teach that." And as opposed to, "I'M of the opinion that you are wrong just as you are of the opinion I'm wrong"

2. We have the biblical imperative to defend our positions as TRUE (as opposed to simply "said"). The "HERETIC" needs to be shown WHY the formal, official declaration of one of the Seven Ecumenical Councils is correct and the heretic is wrong. IMO, that need not be absolute (there need not be a singular verse that specfically says it) but it should be clearly sufficient. While the WHOLE CHURCH has officially, formally spoken - that (per se) does not automatically make that Council correct - there needs to be more than simply, "The Council of Ephesus in 454 stated....."

Profession is never as good as actions in words and deeds which show evidence.

Profession of faith does little on its own, imo. The true 'compass', as you suggested, lies in the change in character over time. We can evaluate initially based on personality (how a person seems in the moment), but these initial evaluations are tenuous. Character is proved over time. For one who professes Christian faith, character change should be an end result of growing in the faith.

You write truthfully. :)

My character changed immediately when I got saved by just praying the sinner's prayer. I was 14 and I had some 'friends', oh my, all we did was gossip about each other. Oh so and so she's terrible isn't she? Yes she gossips so much muhahahahahahaha. I really hated them. Then all of a sudden I loved them. That was really funny.

Question 1 (Does profession of Christian faith change personal character)?
Answer: It's not the profession that does anything. It's the Holy Spirit within us that causes the change.

Question 2 (Is it safe to marry, date, keep company from a close friendship with a person because they profess faith in Jesus Christ or is their personal character a better guide in making decisions about persons with whom you can safely associate?)
Answer: A profession of faith doesn't always mean a person is a Christian since there are liars in the human race. Good character doesn't mean that the person is a Christian too since even nonbelievers can have good morals and values. I can associate with anyone I wish but scripture teaches us firmly to not marry a nonChristian and the reason for that is shown in the Old Testament where men are easily swayed by false gods/religions and turn from the one true God.
