Is possessing wealth a bad thing? Theologically speaking?

Define wealth? :D I'm wealthy when compared to some people living in parts of the seedy areas of town. I'm not wealthy when compared to the people in the richy town next door.

We are not to seek to be extra wealthy and turn money into a god. Our God does bless us though according to His will, but we have to remember why God blesses us and we look to Genesis for that when He told the Hebrews, I will bless you so that you can bless others (paraphrased). Genesis 12.

I look at Abraham and David and Solomon and know that God does not consider wealth bad or a sin but it is how we view it and use it that can be a sin

Are you wanting something like that at your home? :D I'm an artist you know. Art isn't just for the wealthy when you got friends!

No, it's not a bad thing. It can be used as a very good thing when used to help parts of the world progress in better health, stop starvation, build habitats.

I was curious why some folk say that the Vatican's alleged billions ought be sold and given to the poor if they think wealth is not a bad thing? But I guess some folk have their own kinds of double standards ...

Well they can't say anything about pope Francis and everyone should have a private jet otherwise you don't have enough faith.

I would pray that that money is doing good for the poor or else what use is it?

The money and art works held in trust within the Vatican and in other Catholic church buildings has same use as any money kept by a church or an individual who seeks to serve God. Some goes to help the poor, some to missions, some to hospitals, some to maintenance of buildings, some items are in use for worship and prayer, but I think everybody knows that. So I wonder why some choose to complain that the Catholic Church ought to sell all of its buildings and all of the things that have been donated to the Church over the past two thousand years while the ones complaining own houses, church buildings, gold rings, cars, and wide screen TVs as well as computers with which to chat on the Internet. But to each their own ... nothing will be hid in the day of Judgement.

What do you use your money for? Is any wasted?

I waste money on things that are not necessary like my computer and tablet and mobile phone (though the phone was a gift so I didn't spend any money on it and so too was one of my tablet computers).

Let God be praised in everything and perhaps wealth is not a bad thing, right? At least if the wealth is not used to oppress others, flaunted, or treated as something for which one is entitled.

We have one church in Holland, that guy has a huge house and fat income so I never give them a cent but what I did like was that with a revival meeting he let us all sit in a too tiny cheap room because it wasn't fair towards the orphans in India and such they take care of when we would spend the money on renting a bigger place. We could just give it to them instead.

I believe that we can understand good stewardship but when you start talking billions thyen one has to wonder not only what is the churchs purpose but also how did it accumulate all that and why it is holding on to it.

Doesn't Kenneth Copeland say he is a billionaire i 2008?

I do not endorse the youtube video's title - that is from whoever loaded it.

Personally I dont care what ministry it is or what preacher priest, having that kind of wealth and not spreading it around to do good is wrong.

If most of it is then it would not be held onto. Just imagine how much good and how much suffering could be alleviated by 1 billion dollars
