As Christians should we have an open mind?

In church we want to receive God's Word so having an open mind there is a good thing.

But we are told to watch out for false doctrine so having an open mind might allow bad theology to seep in.

What do you think?

An open mind ought also to be a discerning mind. Bad theology like bad science ought to be rejected because it is inherently bad. When a preacher suggests that it is a sin to question their ministry because they've received the word from the Holy Spirit then it is bad theology and ought to be rejected. It is not a sin to question them but it would be very foolish to follow them.

I found Christ by having an open mind. during my search all other religions and philosophies fell to the way side.

As a Christian I'm still inquisitive put I'd suggest we should be well grounded in the historic Christian faith first.

Be as open-minded or close-minded as you like, so long as you are matching up with scriptures.

I used to be too open minded. I like closed minded now. Not good, all those false teachings and discussions on forums, legalism, but I also learned some good things from it. I remember I had this discussion with an atheist who said I had 3 Gods and I couldn't answer him, because all we heard in church was: God is 3 and also One. I don't understand it one bit but I believe it.
I was really confused because of what that guy said who was friends with an ex christian who had become Jewish and mocked everyone until he got a ban. So I had to know and my church was not gonna help me. I found Dr. Brown wow. I thought a combination of a Jew and a christian must know all about it. He debates Jewish rabbi's. Ha later that guy came again who had converted to Judaism with his mocking comments noone could answer, but then I could answer him and ask him questions he couldn't explain. What Michael Brown said, God's Shekina was in the temple, so why not in a body? And I found a book from a great great great granddad who was Jewish and found Jesus in the O.T. So looking back I'm glad I did listen to that atheist, but a whole lot of discussions I'd better not even have read. Just good milk without poison is better.
On the other hand too closed minded isn't good either.

Well, exactly. In an effort to avoid the Scriptures, some ppl will claim that Bible readers are variously too open-minded or too closed-minded, but the Scriptures are the believer's anchor! :)

Holy scripture is holy tradition - a subset of it.

No, tradition is of men and fallible. Scripture is of God and infallible. Do not truy to make what your church puts out as scripture it is not, it is merely tradition and not always true even though you might want to foist it off as such

Holy tradition is not "of men" it is of God. Worldly traditions may be of men and may be wicked or indifferent and some may be helpful and possibly good but holy tradition is always of God and hence always good, holy, and perfect.

Holy tradition is not always written. One does not expect a document to describe actions that can far more easily be demonstrated by performing them.

Most certainly.

My son plays games by his own rules, but he won't write down the rules. Know why? So that when he's losing the game, he can change the rules and on one can argue about what the original rule said!

Irrelevant to the matter under discussion. An open mind in adult conversation is relevant to the matter under discussion and holy tradition is an adult concept and practise while a child's unwritten (and probably variable) game rules is not.

It's certainly not irrelevant, given I replied directly to you and it was directly related to my views on "holy tradition".
