I bet you're glad to have your baby back home for a while. :D

Hopefully, we've gotten the recent issues with CH taken care of (fingers crossed). :popworm:

I am still in contact with some of the folks I used to moderate with there, and nothing has changed in that regard. Search engine ranking is what drives traffic there, and search engine ranking is still blind to too many aspects of a site.

It's kind of funny...two of the most active math help sites I know of are the worst in terms of spam and admin neglect. They just happen to have been around longer than most, and so their search engine ranking is higher than most, and when someone gets online and looks for a math help site, those two sites sit at or near the top of the results list. So, they get more new traffic as a result, and this then drives their ranking up even further...it's a feedback loop. Newer sites in a fairly saturated niche are at a distinct disadvantage under the current search engine ranking regime.

By and large though, it seems most students seeking math help don't care about site features or lack of spam...they care about finding a site where they can dump their homework, go goof off on facebook, and come back later to pick up their assigned work, all worked out and ready for them to copy/past/turn in. Most times when we ask a new user to show their work so we can actually help them, not do their work for them, that's last we hear from them. But, at MHB we're not in it primarily to have a huge site, we are in it to help people, and you aren't truly helping anyone by doing their work for them (if anything, you are hurting them). If we eventually wind up a huge active site, that would be nice, but we're not going to compromise our principles to get there. ;)

When I read this I was immediately reminded of a recent used piano search and investigating various keyboard products. One such keyboard had the ability to - at the touch of a button, let the player hear what he/she is playing in another key, *while playing in the key of C*.

Ugh.

I suppose it might be nice if you're never going to learn to transpose, never learn to - on the spot - play a tune in another key or *heaven forbid* - use a mode substituting the chords with the relative scale steps of that mode or anything like that.

Why develop such relationships in your brain when you can simply touch a button?

People who do such things (in music, in math, in other areas) are ultimately cheating themselves out of a richer experience in those pursuits when they forgo the mental work/disciplines involved.

We'll be doing some hiking and sightseeing with my daughter this weekend and all week. Then she leaves for her internship.

Good morning! Weekend plans?

Should have paid the $11 bucks to get my phone fixed instead of doing it myself. No proper video recording device for a couple of weeks.

After my work weekend ends -

Fix phone.
Mow grass (have had lots of rain lately)
Finish writing out waltz that I've been dragging my feet on
Record Adagio section on piano so I don't forget it - or write out

- when tools I need come -
find out/fix or get fixed leak in roof.

I also have to make a decision on whether or not to destroy a personal video.

I watched it recently. Besides myself, it's only been seen by 3 people - and none of those people is the person it concerns.

I watched it recently and felt nothing. I keep thinking it is a mistake to make it public now. Too much build up over something that is past now, and should stay past.

If I destroy that video and associated music, it will be a first.

Can't you save the music apart from the video?

The music was improvised with the person in mind. There is a strong correlation with the music, my spirit at the time of writing and this person.

Since it is very unlikely now that I will share it beyond the 3 that have heard it - the build up I gave it by mentioning it (elsewhere and here) is not worthy of it. It is a very simple improv, I doubt it will "wow" anyone -and it shouldn't. It is just something that was very personal to me at one time.

It's also somewhat unique in that it stands alone as the only improvisation or composition I've ever wanted to destroy for non-musical reasons. I want to throw it into the fire and berate myself for it.

If it was one of the ones from your Facebook page that I liked, I'll be annoyed with you for trashing it ;) I know you said only 3 people have heard it but still...

Like I said, only 3 people have heard it. It's hosted on another site, set under private. You haven't heard it either, Lam.
