Well, to put it briefly, mathematics is the language in which the laws of nature (physics) are written, but even without its HUGE number of applications, pure mathematics is beautiful in its own right. A beautiful theorem can be just as moving as a work of art or a piece of music. There's a wee bit more to mathematics than the addition of counting numbers...please tell your son that his journey into mathematics will truly begin when he starts studying algebra.
