Assateague and Chincoteague are beautiful, won't argue with that. The first time I stayed there I ended up going into one of the nicer restaurants on the island having been out on the island all day in the sun taking pictures, I'd been liberally doused with suncream and DEET (and the sweat that comes from being outside in the sun all day), had a backpack the size and weight of a small child, and was dressed like I slept in a hedge. As soon as I stepped in the door I felt out of place but they had no problem at all, they showed us to a table that had space for myself, my wife, and my huge backpack and served us just like any other customer. It was a good move for them, because every time we visit the island we make a point of eating there. It's a bit spendy but the food is soooooo goood.
