this game does have its virtues..it allows kids to get out and explore places..instead of sitting at home playing video games and leading a sendentary lifestyle

LOL I haven't seen anyone out here in the country playing it yet! I think if I catch my Amish neighbors (teenagers and 20 year old somethings) playing I'll record them because it will surely be a sight!

My daughter found one in her house. My question is, what is the next level? One where you can produce holograms that look more real because you don't need the phone to see them?

My daughter found one in her house.
Huh? A black hole in her house or an alien? Oh wait, this is the Pokemon thread.
We had dinosaurs in our home walking over the bunnies with our virtual reality glasses. That was fun.

One of my friends at MHB, a Dutch mathematician/programmer, had this to say about Pokemon GO:

Who is into Pokemon GO?

Since a couple of days I've started playing - and I like it!
I like the augmented reality with google maps and the phone's camera, which is quite innovative.
And I'm finally getting some physical exercise again (exergaming) that I'm enjoying and am even looking forward to!
Not to mention that I'm getting to know my neighborhood a bit better and am connecting somewhat to other people.
As I see it, it's the first time that advancing technology gets people moving and getting out again instead of getting more sedentary as has been the trend.

Who else here has started playing?
What are your experiences?

(Btw, if you intend to start playing, don't accept the first pokemon(s) - turning away will net you Pikachu! ;))

Not a fan of Pokemon, my imaginative visual mind is active enough without having an app that places imaginary creatures into real life settings, and can certainly see the dangers of doing so. I think the idea of the game is dangerous - like dropping LSD and getting behind a wheel is dangerous.

Also, major tech trend games/apps like these tend to be used for mass surveillance and info gathering, if the following article is any indication:

For a guy who doesn't even use the GPS on his phone unless it's absolutely needed - not a fan.

Because of you, Strav, I turned my Location off right from the start on my phone. (edited to add because of your advice to me through a message and not from a threat LOL) And because of that I can't play Pokemon Go.

During my last hike though, I did FIND butterflies of different colors, a bunny rabbit, 2 baby deer that I thought at first were golden retrievers romping around, a turtle and I heard a groundhog complaining in the distance LOL

My daughter is here and said there are no Pokemon in my house or nearby! LOL I'm glad I didn't waste my time downloading the game!

Somehow, when I picture people wandering the countryside in a daze, I naturally think "zombie apocalypse"...could this new craze be the beginning of this?

I was my daughter's seeing eye companion today as we went out Pokemon hunting in my town and neighboring parks. She got to level 6 relatively fast which I thought was surprising.
