having seen so many posts almost ranting (well some are ranting 0 about justification by the works of the law .. i decided to look into what the works of the law ARE .
and it is of no surprise to me that they are nothing people are saying they are .. for one thing they are not obedience to the ten commandments . obeying the ten commandments are not works . they are life .
in contrast -the ACTUAL WORKS of the law were specific things done to atone for NOT walking in the ten commandments .
and they are not suffice to fullyjustify . so the sort of 'WORKS " of the law that do not justify and by which paul says .. "no man can be justified" are
this sort of thing .
-It came to pass on the eighth day that Moses called Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel. And he said to Aaron, "Take for yourself a young bull as a sin offering and a ram as a burnt offering,
-If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord.
-And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the Lord be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons.
And the priest shall bring it unto the altar, and wring off his head, and burn it on the altar; and the blood thereof shall be wrung out at the side of the altar:
And he shall pluck away his crop with his feathers, and cast it beside the altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes:
-And if thou bring an oblation of a meat offering baken in the oven, it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil.
And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in a pan, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mingled with oil.
Thou shalt part it in pieces, and pour oil thereon: it is a meat offering.

S0 ..if your slaughtering cows and bulls doves and pigeons to make up for sinning .. you not going to achieve it for those are the works of the law .
now since those offerings (as i understand it ) could not be made without temple or at least a priest .. when they lived in foreign lands (as was common at that time) there was just ONE particular WORK of law they maintained everywhere they went ..
- at that work was circumcision (.This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.)
but having entered into a new and everlasting covenant in christ .. the "work " of circumcision in the flesh was done away with and replaced by the perfect circumcision of the Spirit .., cleaving the spirit away from the flesh that we might live in the spirit and no longer the flesh .. thus do the works of righteousness and not the deeds of sin (bth are deed done )
So since the works of the law by which no man can be justified are ALL pertaining to killing sheep goats bulls doves pigeons and baked cakes etc ...
what works are people saying any one can do to be justified in chrsit .. since none of us do ANY of THESE works of the law .
this means we must look at things that ARE NOT works of the law ... such as LOVE , and obedience to our HEAVENLY FATHER .. these are not works to justify they are just love displayed in obedience .
why was God pleased with king david ? because he did all the sacrifices and works of the law ? nope! ... i do beleive it was because- " David did what was right in the sight of the LORD, and had not turned aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, except in the case of Uriah the Hittite."
now is obeying god in ALL he commanded him referring to the work of the law ? nope! it is part but it is not all.. for constantly God told david to go up here and go down there and do this and do that .things not ,listed in the book of the law (though in harmony to it ) and david obeyed god in all of them for he LOVED the lord .and his love for him is displayed in his obedience .
and yup he sinned ,and you will note .. he did not then go on and commit adultery over and over again .. god dealt with him and he learned and never did so again.
and it is just so with us here and now ... we do not do the works of the law to be justified we dont get circumcised ,we dont kill bulls and goats ..
but obedience to the voice of god is NOT a work of the law .. .. nope it is a work of righteousness . it shows that we are already made the righteousness of god in Christ jesus and a good tree bares good fruit
but a tree that says oh oh i'm a good tree but bears fruits of sin.. is not a good tree.-it is known by its fruits
people need to stop throwing around the term 'works of the law " until they see some one actually doing a work of the law to be justified .. when you see some one sacrificing a bull or a dove or circumcising their children ( for the purpose of justification ) THEN and only then can you tell them they "are doing works of the law ."
