Would you use a leash for your child?

With the gorilla video being all over the internet and blaming the parents, I thought about the use of leashes for kids. Would you use or have you ever used a leash for your child?

My child was really great and never wandered so no, I would not have needed one. I do know tons of kids who can't listen to their parents because of impulses and I do favor a leash for them.

LOL a leash. I don't have to. When we take the bus and the train they walk behind me like 3 ducks. Lol one couple in church, their kid went all over the place and they got so tired of it, there was water at the camping, so they used a leash, so they could just sit and he wouldn't fall in the water. The comments they got. Lol that guy said: well wait til you have kids yourself!
My mother once put my sister on a big leash in the garden, so she could clean up inside while my sister played there, since there was a dangerous road in front of the house. All the neighbours complained about it.

Is that relevant?

The idea is to keep a child who may run off, or even just wander off, into a place where they might face danger. Whether you're talking about a child who might run into the road or a child who might wander away in a busy shopping center or anything else, it's just a means of protecting the child until they know not to wander off.

Whether the outcome of a child wandering off is the death of a gorilla (as is all over social media today) or something even more tragic (like the case some years ago where the toddler James Bulger was briefly separated from his parents in a shopping mall and was abducted and killed by two teenagers, if a parent chooses to use reins to keep their child close to them how is it relevant that something comparable is used on dogs?

I've seen quite a few situations with small children running out of control and wished the parents would keep them in better check.

I agree. For some it might be handy, but I can't help that I laugh about the idea.

Well unruly, that kid that went all over the place wasn't even 1 year old. They're very good at raising kids, but they just wanted to relax too on their holiday. He could just crawl. It's just like a box. They use that too for babies and toddlers.
Mine liked to eat the earth from the plants we had. I just put all the plants high upon the closets. Too much effort to continually watch out. Eventually all the plants died.

I was a clingy child and the thought of being apart from my mom in a publicly crowded place horrified me. No way would I wander!

So there are children who wouldn't find themselves in such dangerous conditions such as a gorilla pit. Not every child is like that and I'm not sure parents are aware that there, rare as it might be, children who behave.

My kids too. They walk after me like 3 ducks wherever I go. The youngest one was taken from me as a baby. Was with them in a zoo, but it was dark. I was 10 m in front of him. Oh my he was so angry at me. Total panic. The oldest one once followed another blond woman to the bus. He thought it was me. Lost sight of the youngest twice though due to a misunderstanding, only a few minutes and one fell in the water when I was feeding the donkey. He climbed out himself and his brother called me. It's always nice to have some angels around. When they were that small though I put them in a buggy in the zoo and such.
Here in Holland such a beast escaped through the glass though. He just broke the glass and dragged a woman with him. Guess animals go first here. She was injured severely but he's still in the zoo. They should just not keep them in zoos. Never gonna visit a zoo with silverbacks.

The wilder the child the more a leash is necessary. Well behaved children who listen get the respect their behavior deserves.

The only instance where I personally believe a restraint may be necessary is for children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder, or some other disorder where their impulse control may be impaired. Other than that, it seems more a convenience for mom/dad than any measure of safety for the child.

Yes but if that woman went out alone with a bunch of kids to the monkeys, if they're walk away kids I'd just not do it and mine I just put in a buggy that age. They were too lazy to walk anyway.
That couple from church, I couldn't blame them. Other kids were always much more moving everywhere and wild than mine.

I considered it..but found its a bitlike car seats.. Harness them in ,harness them out.. Bit of a pain.easier to grab thier hand.. Its not too long a period of time to endure before they are old enough . different i guess if they have issues .

So much depends on the child and the situation. If you're walking along a main road you don't want a child to suddenly run into the road; if you're in a crowded area you don't want them to disappear; if you're in an area where they might face danger they can't understand you don't want to suddenly find they aren't beside you any more.

Then I would still not use a leash, but a buggy.
