So I would not argue that the thing in itself has spiritual value; it's just the many Christians use a faith based tattoo, whether a Bible verse or ref., etc., as one of various means to witness. It's more of a means to an end. A matter of pragmatism, really.

No, I would not permanently scar my body on purpose. There are other more important ways to honor God. besides that, I am a chicken when it comes to pain.

I can see how it could - but a tattoo still isn't something I'd want for myself. ...
PS: contango: For some Christians a faith based tattoo is a means to an end: more witness conversations with ppl, rather than an end in itself (if this makes any sense?)

Sure, but the second part of the post you quoted said "It's probably just as easy, a lot cheaper, and a lot less painful, to wear a T-shirt with a Christian message on it"

If you're looking for a means to start conversations you can do it with a $10 T-shirt that costs less and hurts less than a $300 tattoo. You can also vary the message with another $10 T-shirt whereas a tattoo says the same thing every day.

I know! but a lot of Christians do also find that faith based ink is a well proven means of having conversations with people. Sometimes the entire verse John 3.16 is tattooed on someone's arm or wrist.

It used to be that tattoos were mainly the preserve of military personnel and bikers, but in recent years their demographic distribution has widened very considerably to include many women (in fact in North America now even more women than men are tattooed), for many of whom submitting to the needle injection of a faith based design is the personal inking of choice.

...I got one in the service when I was 18 ...

PS: bill1231: I guess you understand why 18 year olds today have the motivation to get tattooed?

Sure, if someone wants to get inked I won't stand in their way. I just won't be in line behind them :)

contango: Seems like there are long line ups, though! right? :) Parlors seem to be popping up all over the place, with far more comfortable environments than used to be the case.

Sure, the environment may be comfortable but I don't imagine having needles stuck in me is any more pleasant :)

Well, there's always numbing cream that people use. But it depends how badly the person wants the design done...

Some Christians who want a faith based one, Bible verse, etc. would reckon the discomfort is part of the price.

If I could vote, I'd vote yes. One is a Celtic cross. ..other include a portrait of my sons, a Celtic knotwork design of four dogs as an armband, a jackrabbit and a very old rose tattoo. Future plans include a Celtic whale, more knotwork, maybe a green man, a V with a leaf, and Lone Peak, if things go well with a race to the top this fall

Sounds like you are already thoroughly established as a well tattooed woman, who started the tattoo journey some years ago and certainly with more ink intentions for the future!

PS: Mountain Girl 406:

Did you start at 18?

(This is when so many ppl do first ink, anyway.)

Mountain Girl 406: I see! Having it done for the first time must have been a memorable occasion for you. This must have been in the 1980s, and I think at that time not quite so many women were getting tattooed compared with today. Did you maybe kind of feel you were blazing the trail just a bit, both for you personally and for women also?
