Mikvah
If Yeshua did indeed command that we mikvah in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, why did the apostles not do so in Acts 2:38, 8:16, 10:48, and 19:5? Yeshua said that He had come in His Father's name (John 5:43). He also had said that the Father would send the Holy Spirit in His name (John 14:26). Paul made a differentiation between the mikvah of John the Mikvah man and the mikvah of Yeshua (Acts 19:4,5). There are many reasons to mikvah in Holy Scriptures. It is a cleansing process, it is a declaration process, and it is symbolic of a transformation process.
When Peter spoke about mikvah in Acts 2:38, he had just been filled with the Holy Spirit, along with eleven other apostles, on Pentecost. Peter was speaking under the anointing of the Holy Spirit when he told the other Jews standing there to repent and mikvah in the name of Yeshua, our Jewish Messiah for the forgiveness of their sins. Mikvah with water and mikvah with spirit... Paul asked if the mikvah with spirit came first, how can man declare than they are not worthy of mikvah with water.
IT is an immersion and a wholly committed [mind, body, and soul] to Him who returns the favor and mikvahs you in His Holy Spirit. Yeshua said everyone must be born of the water and of the Spirit. Some argue about being born of the water. Does it mean being born of the birth water of a mother or does it mean water mikvah?
For the most part, Christians are ignorant of the Jewish connection to water baptism. They see it as a new invention beginning with John the Baptist. Many to reject water and Spirit mikvahs as two parts to being born again. There are so many points that need to be covered regarding mikvahs. Some thinks once and done. Others see it as part of the cleansing process, they see it in the mikvah of water, the mikvah of spirit, and the mikvah of fiery trials like Yeshua pointed out.
Matthew 20:22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
The mikvah was used for several different reasons and yet they are all spiritually the same reason. They were all for a good conscience before God. Mikvah was not a work of man because it was not invented by man. God is the designer and originator of this mikvah immersion. There were several types of mikvahs. There was mikvah for women who completed their monthly cycle. This purification mikveh could be done at home. Interesting fact, the water pots where Yeshua turned water into wine were used to carry the water. It is said these contained water after the manner of the purification of the Jews. These waters of mikvah were also for the washing of hands after being defiled by touching things unclean. They were used for washing clothes that might have become unclean by some contact with the profane. Yet, you do all these things and never considered the spiritual significance. The waters of mikvah were specifically designed to bring about sanctification. They were additionally the object for ceremonial washing and purification. In other words, whatever passed through the waters of mikvah was then cleansed, purified, and sanctified, MADE HOLY!
