Why do some follow the teaching of Oneness, and do not believe in the Holy Trinity?

I am a mind, body and soul. Three in one. Hear, Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One. ... And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Their "proof" is in the lack of direct reference to the Trinity in scripture. A classic fallback for them is Deuteronomy 6:4. Some other 'supports' would be the command of Christ to baptize in the "name" of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That the Book of Acts refers only to baptism "in the name of the Lord" supports (so they would say) the fact that the Apostles 'understood' this "name" to be Jesus (i.e. how can it be a "Trinity" if the Apostles baptized in ONE name - Jesus).
Some other points have been made about when God states "let Us make man in Our image...", it is merely a reference to 'plurality of majesty', not to Persons of the Trinity.

And on and on it goes...

True. I was part of the United Pentecostal Church for ten years. The more I tried to see the 'Oneness' of God, the more a Trinitarian view made sense. There were other contradictions as well, but that was a major one.

I think it happens because they get evangelised by oneness folk. A lot of people becomes Jehovah's witnesses because they are evangelised by the. Goes for Latter Day Saints (Mormons) too.

I wasn't indoctrinated by any specific sect or religion. I understand the Trinitarian view of GOD to be God as the limits of our perception can discern. I don't, however limit man's perception of GOD to the traditional trinity view though.

I do not see why so many insist that one must adhere to a Trinitarian view based on scripture.

Since it has been brought up, perhaps some followers of such a doctrine can attempt to explain why they feel the view of three people equalling one creator GOD. While they are at it perhaps they could give support for the son of man being 100% man and 100% GOD.

do people realize that equals 200% and is logically unsound?

I mean no disrespect. Like I said; I wasn't indoctrinated through any conventional church, and simply cannot justify these views based on what I know in my heart or what I have read of any scripture.

Any sound explanation would be very appreciated.

Humbly, peace
