What do you think of the message in the book of Ecclesiastes.

Only the wise know what things really mean. Wisdom makes them smile and makes their frowns disappear. (Ecclesiastes 8:1)

You can look to Ecclesiastes 7:11 that says 11 Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun.

From that I read into the inheritance we have in the covenant of Jesus our Savior even though Jesus hadn't been born yet, they knew of the promise of the Savior. Isn't all wisdom that is good grounded in faith of a savior?

I think that most look at things in the physical but those that are in Christ see things through spiritual eyes and possess true wisdom even when that wisdom goes against what others see

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

What's written in Ecclesiastes can be quite close to nihilism at times. Do you think that everything written in Ecclesiastes can be taken as teaching to be received by the faithful as divinely revealed truth to be followed?

Every word of it is teaching to be received by the faithful as divinely revealed truth to be followed?

When God speaks to the heart, the message is clear. Scripture is for that purpose. For those who are without the Holy Spirit seeking to make sense, they find the book is locked.

What do these words "speak to the heart": For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten. (Ecclesiastes 9:5) ?

You responded with a laugh. I am intrigued about why you did.

Only the wise know what that text means. It isn't really a text that speaks to my heart, it's more of a 'skip this text, no idea what it means' kind of text

I agree that it is best skipped over for most purposes. Thanks for your response :)

Yeshua prayed to His Father
John 7:13 “This is life eternal, that they [believers] might know thee [God] the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent”

It is God’s plan for us to know Him intimately; therefore, we must learn to hear His voice. Yeshua said,
John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”

God made this promise to His people:
Jer 29:15 “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart”
God keeps His promises. Seek Him with all of your heart, and you will hear His voice.

Luke 24:32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
Ps 39:3 My heart grew hot within me, and as I meditated, the fire burned

You didn't answer my question. You have not said how Ecclesiastes 9:5 speaks to the heart. Specifically how do these words speak to the heart: For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.?

That is a great disconnect... If you are asking if it speaks to my heart... yeah it does... I know that all I am going to do is best done while alive for I know that when I die I will not know anything and my memory will be forgotten.

No hope for a resurrection among the Just? No confidence in the promises of eternal life that Christ spoke: "Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?"" (John 11:25-26)

You have a disconnection here.... The dead are dead until the resurrection, then they are raised from the dead. Yeshua calls this death..sleep

Was this "yeshua" dead and non-existent at any time?
