Be angry and do not sin

Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not give the devil [s]an opportunity.

In what ways can we be angry, but not sin?

Perhaps the meaning is that a person should not simmer with resentment, etc. even if he isn't contemplating any kind of "getting even" with the person who brought it about.

Even if there is no hatred or retaliation, merely holding onto such thoughts gives the devil an opportunity.

Perhaps by directing that toward a justified object, one that deserves rebuke and being upset. Jesus was angry at the money-changers at the Temple, and they deserved that.

Of course, for sinners, it's easy to confuse OUR feelings with being justified.

In what ways can we be angry, but not sin?

Sin is self-centeredness. Therefore, when we oppose some action or idea 100% to honor God with no selfish motives at all, that's when Paul's description is fulfilled. But it requires the command because we are seldom righteously angry.
