Tacky? Hahaha maybe for the super spoiled filthy rich. Makes me think of an old friend I had as a kid. Her parents were so rich and stuck up. She was not allowed to look outside the window, because that was a thing the civilians did. There's not even a word for it in English. If I throw it in Google translate, it says civil. I was so baffled. I still remember. And her dad was just a stupid vet, but they acted like he was at least a king.
Imagine having to feed all these spoiled people in a restaurant or having waiters to serve em their drinks. We just bought bottles at the cheepest grocery store and put em on a table. Thirsty? Serve yourself. We're not millionairs. If someone would think that's tacky they can better go to Benny Hinn's church. He has money enough for such things. We had a rich woman in church. Here comes the reason I don't like rich stingy christians. She lived in a literal castle and expected my ex to come serve her a week for free. Counselling, prayer every day, while he didn't even get a normal income. So arrogant. I said: You're not gonna do that. So he told her she could go to Canada for a healing week. Costed her thousands.

I have a friend. She's a doc. Her husband is a doc. No wait. It's not her husband. They have 3 kids. Very happy together, 2 houses, money enough, but she said a wedding was too expensive. Huh? Oh of course. They feel obliged to spend a fortune, because what may their rich friends think, so they don't marry at all. A pity of their money.

I think most people view it as a step down from a meal where you're served. I don't mind a buffet because I can pick out what I want to eat.

Okay.....

We did this at our reception. Simple because we'd both been to wedding receptions where the food served was COLD and incredibly little (I left one and stopped at a burger place on the way home).

Our buffet was very, very good.... and everyone ate all they wanted and what they wanted.

FWIW, I think that's right. Most people don't think of a buffet at a wedding reception as something done "on the cheap."

But on the other hand a buffet minimizes the chances of a guest being stuck with a meal that isn't what he expected, and the guests have the fun of seeing all the choices in front of them on the buffet table. Just as with a plated meal, a lot depends on the creativity of the bride and groom.

My fantasy if I ever marry again (which I consider highly unlikely) is to do it in the forest in secrecy by a Priest. Like Braveheart. We can even exchange wooden rings. :p
