I got some more of my walls framed yesterday. I thought I could build an entire section of wall but then realised I need to measure where the end of it is going to be more precisely. I need a stud at the very end of the wall, with other studs suitably spaced from there to the other end. If there's an odd gap at the far end it doesn't matter because that end meets another wall. I need to be able to put a door frame into the corner, so I don't want to suddenly find I'm a few inches misaligned. I hope I'm not going to have to move much other stuff to make it all fit.

While I have everything pulled apart it seems I might as well take out a few bricks from what was once the outside wall and now looks like it's just waiting to collapse. It doesn't look particularly stable and I'm not sure quite how it hasn't had issues, but it's been that way for nearly 100 years. It might just need to move across just a little, to make room for a new doorway. My friend has been collecting building rubble for years for some ongoing project in his back yard, so I imagine he'll be very keen to take dead concrete blocks off my hands.

I've been watching a Nickelodeon show on Netflix. It's old...like from 2011 and I never heard of it. It's nice that it's a show before all the woke nonsense has been pushed onto kids.

I definitely need to remove at least one column of old bricks. I need to move the doorframe a few inches, and I think for that to happen I need to take out some bricks. I might be able to take out a few half-bricks, I'll need to measure stuff and see how it all looks. I'll also need to move one other wall and possibly another one.

I had planned to move some walls, I just hadn't expected to end up pulling everything down to create a huge open space and then repartitioning it all. But it means I'll get a slightly larger bedroom out of it, even if it means a slightly smaller bathroom. The bathroom only needs space for a toilet/sink/shower anyway, so that shouldn't really be an issue.

I was reading a Newspaper online and the comments and I'm crying. An 83 y o woman was angry because she was stuck in an elevator for an hour and could not sit. The comments from all these guys: She can go sit on the floor. And then those women: She's 83! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Got another load of lumber ready to do some more wall-building. It has been wet these last several days and I really didn't want to be unloading wood from the car and making multiple trips in the rain. Now I have the wood and it's all indoors, so I can do my work whenever. I just need to let a couple of the pieces dry out a bit, I need to rip them lengthways and don't want them warping any more than is absolutely unavoidable.

There are plenty of 83 y o's who could sit on the floor in an emergency if they were uncomfortable remaining standing for an hour, leaning against the wall.

To be fair, there are some who can't do all of that, even with the help of the other people there. However, I can't fault the other occupants of the elevator for just suggesting it to an 83 y o woman under these circumstances.

What the online commentators were like, though, I can only guess at. Some of those were probably just giddy about being afforded the chance to berate either the woman or the other people with her.

There's nothing like an online comments section to bring out the virtue signallers....

Need to get some work done before having air conditioning installed. So far I've figured the routing for the pipes to get from outside to inside to the attic.

Today's job was to rip out a rotted window frame and replace it. I had pressure treated wood on hand and a big wrecking bar. The first step, removing the old window, was a bit of a drag. The screws holding the hinges were rusted and painted over. I managed to remove five of them but then used a pry bar to rip the last one out of the wood. My wrecking bar made short work of the rest of it, although it took a bit of pulling and hammering to get it out of the hole in the wall. Then it was a matter of cutting a new frame to fit a hole that wasn't square or even, preparing a space for the pipes to run through, and then building a bug screen for the outside and a panel for the inside. I ran out of time so don't yet have my extraction fan fitted to the panel. That's less urgent, but I want to get it seen to before it gets humid in the basement again.

I knew the old frame was rotted but I didn't realise how badly rotted it was until I ripped it out. It's really not in good shape. I'm thinking I may need to replace some other window frames, although I can't say I'm thrilled at the thought. The sawdust from cutting treated lumber really isn't very nice - it's damp and tends to gum things up.

I'm doing some laundry before I head out to the park to hike. It's really cool outside now but will be hot later, so all the windows on the main level are open.

Some stuff I did today:

I made (mostly) whole wheat flat bread that I intended to turn into chips/crackers (like corn chips but with wheat). I used potato water mixed with onion, tomato paste and chili as the liquid element to the dough, which was autolysed. Salt was added for the short kneed period when using autolyse. They turned out o k, but I think I can do better.

I also made hash browns with bell pepper and onion in bulk for freezing.

Composed a little. Actually, I compose often, however it is usually characterized by some degree of established chord patterns or sequences. Part of breaking out of musical ruts is to challenge one's habits to create outside of them.

Started viewing a 10-hour documentary on the history leading up to, dealing with and examining the reasons, lead up to and culmination of both world wars, which so far has been short on drama and long on proving historical facts that few people in Western societies are taught either in school or through the brainwashing of popular movies and literature. Much of the information (if it were contained in a book) would be banned by the likes of Amazon, which, if you didn't know, started to de-list a bunch of Revisionist material several years ago.

My outdoor furniture arrived yesterday, but I noticed some spots where the powdercoating was chipped, so I want to spray some Rustoleum on those spots before I assemble them. That's my morning plan.

After a morning walk I need to pull down a litlte more ceiling, make sure the woodwork of the joists are level, and then get insulation and soundproofing into place. Then I can build the last parts of the stud walls to contain the room I'm working on. From there I can get stuff out and look at having someone in to drywall it and replace the windows. Once that's done I can move stuff out of the adjacent room and rebuild that.

Finishing my decaf coffee and trying to wake up. It smells like poo outside since they fertilized the fields so I don't want to go out and walk.

I'm super sensitive to caffeine, so most days I have to drink decaf.

Unless I drink lots of coffee it doesn't seem to have a lot of effect on me. At one of our local cafes they do bottomless coffee with breakfast and I've found that after about the fourth or fifth cup I really feel like I need to stop drinking coffee.

I think I'd be dead on the floor!
