Seemed pretty clear to me. The whole of the context implies the comprehension of the Wise-men.
Yet also to take into account is Luke. So much insight is given to the events Leading up to the Magi.
This may help to understand why Herod was troubled.

5There was in the days of Herod, king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abijah: and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
Attention to details. Notice Course of Abijah points to a given Time to be exact.
Wise-men observed a Star.
Why would Matthew point this out?
And Luke give account of a Course of Priest?
Time.
And how did they keep count of the seasons?
The Heavens declare His handiwork.

1Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold,
Wise-men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews?
for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

Chief Priest and Scribes Give Direction to Bethlehem...?
3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

Thanks You! It does show that they had a high degree of comprehension when they arrived .They knew exactly what had happened, and it was not something they discovered from word on the Judean streets after they arrived and supposedly wandered around listening to the gossip. Amazing to me is Herod didn't know. The star had been visible for two years. Herod had to ask the wise men what time the star had appeared. Notice how he did not ask the chief priests and scribes. So either they did not look up to see the star, or they saw it, and did not know what it meant. But they had to go back to prophecy to find out where the Messiah was to be born, now that they knew (from the wise men) that He had been born.

Time and events as it relates to prophecy is strictly controlled by our Father. He has established set times for us to watch for various event such as seed time and harvest. Though much of what was taught regarding time in the Old Testament has been lost or corrupted over the years. We manipulate time to suit ourselves rather than the will of God. This coming Sunday here in the U.S. we will revert back to Eastern Standard Time. But our Father knows and keeps the set time that He has established, even when men forget and or corrupt. Abraham was told...
Gen.15:13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

Joseph remembered the promise for he said to his brothers.
Gen. 50:24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

So in God's timing, the prophecy was fulfilled just as our Father had promised, even though Abraham AND Jacob AND Joseph had died and did not actually see the fulfillment.

I agree there should be tests since so many have promoted things in all sincerity that turned out to be wrong. But I think that is why Lord Jesus gives us warning signs to watch for. Like this
Matt.24:23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

25 Behold, I have told you before.

26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

So as not to be deceived, we don't believe anyone who sets a date, or anyone who says Jesus id in hiding and will soon reveal himself. So let us be clear about that. But how do we watch? How do we test all things. With the Damascus prophecy, we see things happening there now that looks like prophecy is unfolding. But, Damascus is still a city as of today. Royal power is suppose to disappear. Assad is still King. I have never known our Father to half do anything. So it all has to happen before we can call it fulfilled. I don't know any Annas, or any Simeons for that matter. I am not saying there are none. I just have not seen any. Would I know them if I ran into them?

Reading 2 Chronicles ch 18 has a compelling lesson.

That scripture is not in 2 Chronicles 18, but is in Matthew 24. However 2 Chronicles 18 does have a tight lesson.

Thankyou.
Yes, typically I will post Yeshua/Jesus in red, sorry.
I should have provided the scripture.
2 Peter 1
19So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, 21for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

35For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat;
I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink;
I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;
36naked, and you clothed Me;
I was sick, and you visited Me;
I was in prison, and you came to Me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?…

2 Chronicles 18King James Version (KJV)

18 Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and joined affinity with Ahab.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramothgilead.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Wilt thou go with me to Ramothgilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and we will be with thee in the war.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the Lord to day.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the king's hand.

[SUP]6 [/SUP]But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord besides, that we might enquire of him?
[SUP]7 [/SUP]And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whom we may enquire of the Lord: but I hate him; for he never prophesied good unto me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And the king of Israel called for one of his officers, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat either of them on his throne, clothed in their robes, and they sat in a void place at the entering in of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

[SUP]10 [/SUP]And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith the Lord, With these thou shalt push Syria until they be consumed.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one assent; let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of their's, and speak thou good.
[SUP]13[/SUP]And Micaiah said, As the Lord liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.

[SUP]14 [/SUP]And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear?
And he said, Go ye up, and prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand.

[SUP]15 [/SUP]And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou say nothing but the truth to me in the name of the Lord?
[SUP]16[/SUP]Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the Lord said, These have no master; let them return therefore every man to his house in peace.

[SUP]17 [/SUP]And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesy good unto me, but evil?
[SUP]18 [/SUP]Again he said, Therefore hear the word of the Lord; I saw the Lord sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.

[SUP]19 [/SUP]And the Lord said, Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one spake saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]Then there came out a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will entice him. And the Lord said unto him, Wherewith?
[SUP]21 [/SUP]And he said, I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said, Thou shalt entice him, and thou shalt also prevail: go out, and do even so.
[SUP]22 [/SUP]Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil against thee.
[SUP]23 [/SUP]Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the Lord from me to speak unto thee?

[SUP]24[/SUP]And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

[SUP]25 [/SUP]Then the king of Israel said, Take ye Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;
[SUP]26 [/SUP]And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.

[SUP]27[/SUP]And Micaiah said, If thou certainly return in peace, then hath not the Lord spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, all ye people.

[SUP]28 [/SUP]So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.
[SUP]29 [/SUP]And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and I will go to the battle; but put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went to the battle.
[SUP]30 [/SUP]Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that were with him, saying, Fight ye not with small or great, save only with the king of Israel.
[SUP]31 [/SUP]And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they compassed about him to fight: but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the Lord helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.
[SUP]32 [/SUP]For it came to pass, that, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back again from pursuing him.
[SUP]33 [/SUP]And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: therefore he said to his chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
[SUP]34 [/SUP]And the battle increased that day: howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the even: and about the time of the sun going down he died.

How would watching benefit you?

Hi TurtleHare, Lord Jesus gave us signs to watch for in Matt.24. Just read that whole chapter. But here it is in part.
Matt. 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;

49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Watch and pray for the people of Syria and surrounding area. I hear that many Muslims are converting by convictions of the Holy Spirit towards truth. They are even getting sick and tired of killing and hating all the time.

Reading 2 Chronicles ch 18 has a compelling lesson.

24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
Upon God's appointed time Christ will be on earth again. We will not be hidden from any but among many.

"He" not "we". Make no mistake though. The Crist will be of many in the second coming.

Faith in selfless Unity for Good.
