What are your thoughts on this quote? Are Christians to avoid living by reason?
View attachment 1800
Some good things did come out of Age of Reason, or The Enlightenment as it was also known, but things that Christians accept by faith, including the integrity of Scripture, were subject to much criticism, reform, and derision.I believe it is a good quote, and I understand what he is saying. I think it would have been more clearer to say, "When a Christian tries to live by the world's reason...."
The Christian exercises reason. But it is not the 'reasoning' of the world which denies God and Christ. We Christians reason based on our faith in God and Christ. The reasoning of the world is supported by it's science, leading them away from God. The reasoning of the believer is supported by Scripture and the Holy Spirit, leading them always closer to God.
It is the same with 'wisdom'. The Christian has wisdom, but not the world's wisdom. The world's wisdom sees the teachings of the Bible as foolishness. But to the believer it is the Word and power of God. See (1 Cor. 1:18-25) (1 Cor. 2:4-7) (1 Cor. 2:14-16)

I will tell you exactly what He means by it.What are your thoughts on this quote? Are Christians to avoid living by reason?

Do you have any sort of proof of that story having happened?I will tell you exactly what He means by it.
When he was in Africa in one of the remote
villages, one of the tribesmen came to his hut
one night with a baby who had a broken neck
and the tribesman asked him to pray with him
for God to do a miracle and heal it, because the baby had
no control of it. The tribesmen did not know the baby
had a broken neck but Mr. Lake knew it so he told the tribesman
to go back to the hut and pray for he figured
the baby would be dead by morning so he went back
to bed. The next morning the tribesman came back
with the baby and the neck was not broken.
Jesus healed the baby in the night. Mr. Lake by reason
of the neck being broken gave up on faith in God.
while the tribesman who knew no better prayed in faith
believing that God would heal it.
That is what he means by what he stated.
