Working on a Family Recipe cookbook using Google Slides. I'm taking pictures of my mom's handwritten recipe cards and putting them in there. I only have a few of my mother-in-law's so those are going in too.

I'd suggest keeping your own offline copy as well. Keeping the only copy in a system owned by someone else seems like an ideal way to find you have to pay whatever they ask, if they suddenly change the rules of their online storage.

If it's online is it something worth making public? If you have enough recipes you could even make it into a printed book and sell it. Our church printed a recipe book, with recipes provided by members, and sold copies to help raise some funds a few years ago. We have a copy and of the recipes we've tried in it every single one has been delicious.

I remember years ago my mother found a knitting pattern in one of her magazines that had been submitted by an elderly lady who had knitted them for years, had no relatives interested in knitting, and just didn't want the pattern to die with her. So she submitted it to a magazine and let anyone who wanted to give it a try have free access to it.

I forget what the pattern was for but whatever it was I probably have one floating about somewhere.

That sounds really cool! None of my nieces/nephews or daughter are into crafting like I am so all my knitting/crocheting/embroidery/cross stitch stuff will probably get donated when I am gone. It's sad because I have so much stuff that they don't have to purchase anything!

If you create your own site you have more control over it than if you put it on something like Faceache, where it will either be lost forever or it will get deleted because six months from now someone finds an everyday recipe term offensive.

Is it easier than using something like PowerPoint? My concern with leaving the only copy of something on Google isn't so much privacy (I don't imagine you'll be embarrassed if a hacker gets hold of your recipes) as the chance it will be deleted or you'll find you can't get at it any more. Even if it's something as simple as finding the rules on how much space you get change and you suddenly have to pay to get at your own data, it seems like a good reason to keep a local copy.

Obviously it's your decision, I just don't think I'd ever allow the only copy of anything that was even remotely important to me to exist on a platform I didn't control.

I'd hazard a guess that hackers are into finding things that are stored in accounts and then figure what they've found. If they were hoping to find something like a scan of a bank statement or something else they could use they'd be disappointed to find Grandma's recipe for cinnamon cookies (unless they really like cinnamon cookies, I guess). If something is password protected there's no way of knowing what's behind the password unless/until you hack the password.

If you've got your own copy you're safe if anything goes wrong. Personally I wouldn't assume that a for-profit company will always maintain a zero price tag on something if they figure they can get away with charging for it, but maybe I'm just paranoid. Certainly I wouldn't trust keeping my only copy of anything on someone else's computer, but if you're happy you have your own copies anyway all is good.

My wife went to do some Christmas shopping today so I did a few things around the house. I got a new hole drilled in the outside wall and ran a cable that will power a light on another porch, and got the gap around the cable cemented over. I got some of the wood I'll need to support the trim prepared - when I pulled it down it had lots of nails in it, so I pulled the nails out and bought some screws so I can reattach it easily. Nails are easy enough when space permits but I hate banging nails in confined spaces, particularly when i'm banging things over my head at odd angles.

Now I've got a shim ready to screw into place, that will support the heavy duty back box I'm going to use. For now I'm just planning to put a regular light in place but I'm rebuilding everything such that I can put a ceiling fan in there in the future, should I decide it would be useful. It also means any future owner of the house can change the light for a fan without much work at all - literally just take down the light and put up a fan.

I got my regular walk in as well, and got rained on. Thankfully the rain didn't last too long and even the 25mph wind gusts weren't able to sap too much of my body heat. When I got home I cut some more wood offcuts to make supports on the porch, and noticed another draft in the room by the porch, so got that chiseled out and repacked with cement. That room is particularly cold, so I'm hoping that sealing gaps and adding insulation will make a big difference.

I spent an entire day and a half playing a computer game called "This war of mine". In the game, you direct/control post-war survivors who struggle to meet basic human needs in a war torn suburban/city area. You must search for food, find materials to build things like beds, heaters, water collection/purification, tools and weapons, deal with harsh winters, starvation, raids on your residence, sickness, the wounded and even the results of individual's depression related to their actions. Starting with a team of 3 and picking up 3 more, I manged to survive 28 days the first time around, and 38 days the second time before all the struggling survivors died.

Hehe...as fun and interesting as it was, I couldn't help but thinking it would have been a whole lot easier if the game recognized the viability of a vegan diet - as food/starvation is one of the central themes, there is a necessity in the game of eating meat. How much easier it would be without that requirement!

They're just recipes. No account numbers associated with it or social security numbers. A lot of the recipes aren't even unique but ones passed down through generations and at times when I find that someone neglected to add something such as what temp to bake something at, I can easily search online and find similar recipes.

My wife and I had hoped to go to a Christmas market yesterday evening. Sadly the web site that showed us where to park was down when we were trying to plan and the best advice the organisers would offer over Messenger was "drive around and look for something". Needless to say I didn't feel like driving for an hour or more in the hope I could find somewhere suitable and legal to park, in the dark, in a strange town. So we went to check out a new restaurant and had a nice meal there, then had a swift jar at our favorite brewpub, then a walk in the park to see the Christmas lights. All in all a good evening. Probably a better evening than if we'd driven to the Christmas market.

One of the vendors I had hoped to see was a guy selling cuckoo clocks. I like cuckoo clocks but we have one already and I don't think my wife would be very happy if I brought any more home.

It was unfortunate that the web site was unavailable in the hours leading up to the event opening. It was even more unfortunate that the organisers couldn't send me a copy of the graphic on their web site that would have helped. I can figure out for myself that "drive around and look for something" might work but it doesn't inspire much confidence.

Still, their loss. I can spend my money anywhere, and a local restaurant ended up getting the money that I would otherwise have spent around the market.

A mixture of weighing serious statements made about the jab, genetics, cancer and trying to educate myself to at least a beginner's degree to understand whether the accusations have merit by looking through patents, and researching statements and definitions.

Some Spring cleaning. I'm horrible at keeping things clean and un-cluttered. This is something I want to change. So far I have a system going that's working for my kitchen area.

Minor video editing.

Crying and screaming a lot doing that video editing.

Making some beginning in-roads into the Aussie un-jabbed community. Need new friends.
