After an awful lot of struggling I finally managed to run a cable through the cavity above my front porch ceiling to power a light. It's a temporary measure to make sure we're happy with where we put the light before we finish the rest of the work on the porch ceiling. Along the way I nearly ruined my fish tape but thankfully I was able to get it free - it had stuck somewhere in the space but I couldn't see what I was doing so I had no idea how to free it. Eventually I just pulled it hard in all directions and it came free. Then I figured I could take a more indirect route, ran a longer piece of scrap cable along the new route, and got it all joined together. A strategically placed nail through the ceiling provided a hook to stop the cable from pulling away from the indirect route, which means I can use it to pull a cable when I drill a new hole to feed some 14/3 into the cavity. So at least the effort wasn't entirely wasted on a temporary fix. The next step is to run cable from where the light is to where the next light in the chain is going, and from there to the final light. Hopefully that will be easier than this morning's effort.
Now I'm off for my scheduled workout. I'm not looking forward to this one - two weeks ago I had four speed repeats and managed OK. Last week there were six, and the last two were hard. This week I've got eight of them. I hope I don't end up with 10, 12, 14 of them in future weeks. It's hard maintaining a "challenging pace" when hills are involved, and I can't find a stretch that isn't hilly that's long enough for me to run back and forth along a flat section. I guess I just need to suck it up and figure it's making me fitter and stronger.
