the seventh day the first day of the week

View attachment 1609
In Genesis 2:1-3 (KJV) Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
And on the seventh day, God ended his work which he had made, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

On the seventh day, God finished his work
“Sanctification” 5 words New Testament
Exodus 20: 8 – 11 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

The Seven days is Saturday, Sunday is the first day of the week, on Sunday God Sanctify the Seven days for himself

“Sanctify” 70 words: Strong’s #38: The Greek term for sanctify means to “set apart” for God’s special use.

Exodus 31:17 (NKJV) It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.' "

The fourth commandment

Deuteronomy 5:12-14 (NKJV) 'Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you.
Deuteronomy 5: 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
Deuteronomy 5: 14 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it, you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, or your stranger who is within your gates, that you’re a male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.

This means that the Lord did all the feasts and sacrifice required for a propitiation for sin, on the Seven days he Sanctify “set apart” for God’s special use.
Deuteronomy 5:12 (ASV) Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as Jehovah thy God commanded thee.

1 Corinthians 1:2-9 (KJV) Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;
That in everything ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ?
God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

1:2 A local church of God is a group of people who identify themselves with God and gather together to worship and serve Him. Sanctified in Christ Jesus:

The Corinthians’ holiness came from their position in Christ, not from their own goodness.
The tense of the verb sanctified indicates that God had sanctified the Corinthians at a specific time in the past, producing a condition that they still enjoyed in the present. called to be saints:
The work of Jesus Christ makes a believer holy forever in God’s eyes.
But in everyday living, sanctification involves small, daily changes (
see ‍Heb.‍ 10:14).

This is why Paul could call the Corinthian believers to become saints, even though the problems in their church testified that they were far from the goal of holiness.
Every place is most likely a reference to local churches throughout the Roman Empire (
see 1 Tim. 2:8).

Isaiah 4:1-6 (KJV) And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.
In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.
And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remained in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem:
When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.
And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defense.
And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.

Gen 2:1-3 says that God rested on that 7th day.
Nowhere does Scripture say God rested every 7th day

And since God work of creation was complete there is no indication he started work again on the 8th day. Nor is there any indication that Adam and Eve rested on the seventh day. Indeed since they were in Paradise there was no work for them to do. It was not until they fell and were expelled that God says to Adam:
"Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground because of you; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth to you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; you are dust, and to dust you shall return." (Gen 3:17-19).

Moreover the writer of Hebrews makes a point that God’s work was completed in the six days and so God’s rest is continuous.
“…although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way, "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works." (Heb 4:3-4).

There is no cycle of God working for six days and resting every seventh day.

Nowhere does Scripture say anyone rested on the 7th day before God introduced the idea to the Israelites in the desert. It is obvious by their reaction that it was a new idea to them.

The 7th day Sabbath was a sign of God's Covenant with them.
‘The Lord said to Moses, “Say to the people of Israel, 'You shall keep my sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you.…...

Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the sabbath, observing the sabbath throughout their generations, as a perpetual covenant. It is a sign for ever between me and the people of Israel“‘
(Ex 31:12-13, 16-17)

The 7th day Sabbath was not given to the Israelites until God gave them the Covenant.

The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. Not with our fathers did the Lord make this covenant, but with us, who are all of us here alive this day. (Deut 5:2-3)

The 7th day Sabbath was never given to Gentiles, only with Israel as part of the now abolished Mosaic Covenant.

What is a sign and to rest in God?

Spiritually, the "rest" meant is that to be found in obeying those very "precepts" of God
(Isa 28:10) which they jeered at (compare Jer 6:16 Mt 11:29).

Men know more than they cannot comprehend
The Lord He tells us everything over and over— one line at a time, and another time, a little now, and a little later!”

Isaiah 28:10 (NLT2)

In Isaiah 28:11-13 (NKJV)
For with stammering lips and another tongue, He will speak to these people, To whom He said,

This means as the day's Babel a foreign language; He will speak these people, and will not understand

Isaiah 28:13 (NLT2) So the LORD will spell out his message for them again, one line at a time, one line at a time, a little here, and a little there, so that they will stumble and fall.

They will be injured, trapped, and captured. This means, a state of panic

Isaiah 28: 12"This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest," And, "This is the refreshing", Yet they would not hear.
This means, Men do not know what is to rest, they get weary each day, the Lord says come into my rest for I have labored for you

"This is the refreshing" yet they do not want to!

In Isaiah 28:11-13 (NKJV) For with stammering lips and another tongue, He will speak to these people, To whom He said,

Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV) Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Exodus 31:17 (NKJV) It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day

For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works"; and again in this place: "They shall not enter My rest."
Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience,

Hebrews 13:8-9 (NKJV) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines.

For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them

God resists on Sunday, Saturday the Sabbath is to show, He is the One true God as a Sign, above all other gods.

So now He says come all who labor or in this case bring your burden and confess and repent and come into my rest.

The Law of Moses
images.jpg 686.jpg
Romans 5:13 (NKJV) (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

Hebrews 10:28-29 (NKJV) Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

Deuteronomy 17:6 But never put a person to death on the testimony of only one witness.
There must always be two or three witnesses.

Hebrews 2: 2 For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished.

Are you suggesting that God needed a "spritual rest" after creating.

I have always be taught that we work 6 days then take the 7 day (The Sabbath) off to rest and worship the Lord, it may not be correct. but it was what I was always taught.

I think the argument is about 2 things:
1. Whether that day or rest and worship should be Saturday or Sunday.
2. If Sunday, then is that properly called The Sabbath.

I think:
1. Sunday
2. No, the Sabbath is Saturday and Jewish and not relevant to Christians.

guys any day you wish to worship, just know the God of Israel through Christ Christianity came from God of Israel
The Sabbath is for Jews, and those who say I Jewish are not, (
Revelation 3: 90). Orthodox Jews worship on the Sabbath, sundown to sun up. Christianity is free from that.

True Christian worship on any day they wish. (Deuteronomy 14: 2) (1 Peter 2: 9)
Working six days is for the Harvest, then God says to take a rest after the six-day, which is Sunday, then coming Monday return to work in the Harvest, worship the Father, the Harvest is Hebrew tradition
But work of Harvest is giving from the Spirit of God and his disciples

In Psalm 24:4-6 (KJV) He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

O Jacob of this generation, because Esau I hate.
meaning as I go to worship clean your bodies from all paganism, confess your iniquity before you can come to me meaning Him, any day you wish, Night or during any time.

But there is a catch

Yes, I would agree with that as applicable to an individual.
However if we wish to gather as a congregation to worship then we need to have a common day.
