The sabbath was not given to man at creation but was made known to Israel in the time of Moses, which is when Moses wrote down the revelation that God gave of the creation. We have no history from the time of creation--Moses wrote the story of creation about 3500 years ago, so for 2500 years man didn't even know about the sabbath. When it WAS finally made known, it was as a sign between God and Israel, not God and the Church.

"Not abolished"?

Actually the whole of the Old (Mosaic) Law (including the Sabbath command) was abolished.
That the Jews continue to keep it is their choice.

The clearest scripture showing the abolition is Eph 2:13-15 but there are more.
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near in the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who has made us both one, and has broken down the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law of commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two,

Col 2:14 says
And you, who were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, having cancelled the bond which stood against us with its legal demands; this he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

The Book of Hebrews makes this replacement of the Old Covenant by the New very clear.
On the one hand, a former commandment is annulled because of its weakness and uselessness, for the law brought nothing to perfection; on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God. (Heb 7:18-19)

When there is a change of priesthood, there is necessarily a change of law as well. (Heb 7:12)

For if that first covenant had been faultless, no place would have been sought for a second one. But he finds fault with them and says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will conclude a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. (Heb 8:7-8)

When he speaks of a “new” covenant, he declares the first one obsolete. And what has become obsolete and has grown old is close to disappearing (Heb 8:13)

He takes away the first to establish the second (Heb 10:9)

Hebrews 4:9 - “It is therefore the duty of the people of God to keep the Sabbath.”
You are using a very strange translation.
Heb 4:9

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. (KJV)
there doth remain, then, a sabbatic rest to the people of God (YLT)
So then, there remains a sabbath rest for the people of God; (RSV)
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; (NIV)
Therefore, a sabbath rest still remains for the people of God. (NABRE)
So there remains a [full and complete] Sabbath rest for the people of God. (AMP)
So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, (ESV)

to quote just a few of the commonly used ones.
They say nothing about it being a duty to keep the Sabbath

I totally agree, Stephen, we are under the New Covenant, not the Old. If people want to try to live under the Old, they won’t make Heaven that way, but maybe they will act better on earth, which will make life in general better, maybe.

Q. Which is the Sabbath Day?
A. Saturday is the Sabbath Day.
Q. Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
A. We observe because the Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.

The Convert’s Catechism of Doctrine

The Catholic Encyclopedia
The Church, after changing the day of rest from the Jewish Sabbath of the seventh day of the week to the first, made the Third-day commandment refer to Sunday as the day to be kept holy as the Lord’s day. Vol. 4 page 153

American Catholic Quarterly Review January 1883
Protestantism, in discarding the authority of the church, has no good reason for its Sunday theory, and ought logically to keep Saturday with the Jews

Canon and Tradition
The authority of the church could not, therefore, be bound to the authority of the Scriptures because the church had changed the Sabbath to Sunday not by the command of Christ, but by its own authority page 263

Our Question today is?
Can Sunday-sacredness be supported from the Bible or is it merely a relic of Church tradition, a command of the Roman Church-State?

I get really pi**ed off by these crappy supposed quotes from non authoritative sources that cannot be checked because no links are given.

The above is rubbish and does not represent the teaching of the Catholic Church.
It's the product of raw anti-Catholic bigotry.

So if none of those quotes are authoritative, any thoughts on the Roman Catholic Church's position with regard to the 7th and 1st days of the week

OK, thanks.
That the Catholic Church has not changed the Sabbath to Sunday is shown by these quotation, going back in time:

Catechism of the Catholic Church
Sunday is expressly distinguished from the sabbath which it follows chronologically every week; for Christians its ceremonial observance replaces that of the sabbath. In Christ's Passover, Sunday fulfills the spiritual truth of the Jewish sabbath and announces man's eternal rest in God. For worship under the Law prepared for the mystery of Christ, and what was done there prefigured some aspects of Christ (Catechism of the Catholic Church, para 2175 – current edition taken from the Vatican web site)

Pope John Paul II
We move from the "Sabbath" to the "first day after the Sabbath", from the seventh day to the first day: the dies Domini becomes the dies Christi! (Apostolic Letter, Dies Domini, Pope John Paul II, 1998 – para 18).

Catechism of the Council of Trent
The observance of the Sabbath was to be abrogated at the same time as the other Hebrew rites and ceremonies, that is, at the death of Christ. (Catechism of The Council Of Trent, issued by order of Pope Pius V, published 1556 - THE ROMAN CATECHISM)

Going back to the early Church

Justin Martyr
And on the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying Amen (Justin Martyr, First Apology, chap 67 - approx 155AD)

In AD 135 the Emperor Hadrian sacked Jerusalem, prohibited Jews from living there and prohibited worship on the Sabbath throughout the Empire. This was not an issue for Christians as they were already worshipping on Sunday as the following show.

Epistle of Barnabus
Further, He says to them, Your new moons and your Sabbath I cannot endure. [Isaiah 1:13] You perceive how He speaks: Your present Sabbaths are not acceptable to Me, but that is which I have made, [namely this,] when, giving rest to all things, I shall make a beginning of the eighth day, that is, a beginning of another world. Wherefore, also, we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead. (Epistle of Barnabus, para 15 AD 117-138)

Ignatius of Antioch
If, therefore, those who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord's Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death (Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to The Magnesians, AD 110)

Didache
But every Lord's day gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. (Didache – )

The Ten commandments the eighth commandment Remember!

images (3).jpg
Ex 20:8-11 (KJV) Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it, thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.
Labor doing the work of Christ

Because the six-day is the Sabbath Day!

Why?
Protestantism, in discarding the authority of the church, has no good reason for its Sunday theory, and ought logically to keep Saturday for the Jews.

But your LORD thy God Sanctified the six-day to set apart” for God’s people. Not just for the Jews but for all its people.

Rev 14:6-7 (KJV) And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

The fourth commandment
Ex 20:11 (KJV) For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Ezek 20:10-26 (KJV)Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt and brought them into the wilderness. And I gave them my statutes and showed them my judgments, which if a man does, he shall even live in them. Moreover, also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them. But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man does, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them. But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out. Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands; Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols. Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness. 18 But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols: I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them, And
hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God. Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man does, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness. Nevertheless, I withdrew my hand, and wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth. I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries; Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols. Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live; And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.

By worshiping the God of Sabbath you will know there is theone true God because it shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God. Any other day but Saturday is worshiping, is man-made, or of Satan.

The Apostolic Creed: Oh Lord Almighty, Thou hast created the world by Jesus Christ, and hath appointed the Sabbath in memory thereof.

Col 1:14-20 (KJV) the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him, all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth or things in heaven.

John said in, Rev 1:10 (KJV) I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, The Sabbath day!

So if you think the 6th day of the week is the Sabbath, what do you think the 7th day of the week is?

I don't think I know
images (82).jpg

the seventh day the first day of the week

imagesCAXD4FPD.jpg
In Genesis 2:1-3 (KJV) Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
And on the seventh day, God ended his work which he had made, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

On the seventh day, God finished his work
“Sanctification” 5 words New Testament
Exodus 20: 8 – 11 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

The Seven days is Saturday, Sunday is the first day of the week, on Sunday God Sanctify the Seven days for himself

“Sanctify” 70 words: Strong’s #38: The Greek term for sanctify means to “set apart” for God’s special use.

Exodus 31:17 (NKJV) It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.' "

The fourth commandment

Deuteronomy 5:12-14 (NKJV) 'Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you.
Deuteronomy 5: 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
Deuteronomy 5: 14 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it, you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, or your stranger who is within your gates, that you’re a male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.

This means that the Lord did all the feasts and sacrifice required for a propitiation for sin, on the Seven days he Sanctify “set apart” for God’s special use.

Deuteronomy 5:12 (ASV) Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as Jehovah thy God commanded thee.

1 Corinthians 1:2-9 (KJV) Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;
That in everything ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ?
God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

1:2 A local church of God is a group of people who identify themselves with God and gather together to worship and serve Him. Sanctified in Christ Jesus:

The Corinthians’ holiness came from their position in Christ, not from their own goodness.
The tense of the verb sanctified indicates that God had sanctified the Corinthians at a specific time in the past, producing a condition that they still enjoyed in the present. called to be saints:
The work of Jesus Christ makes a believer holy forever in God’s eyes.
But in everyday living, sanctification involves small, daily changes (
see ‍Heb.‍ 10:14).

This is why Paul could call the Corinthian believers to become saints, even though the problems in their church testified that they were far from the goal of holiness.
Every place is most likely a reference to local churches throughout the Roman Empire (
see 1 Tim. 2:8).

Isaiah 4:1-6 (KJV) And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.
In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.
And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remained in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem:
When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.
And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defense.
And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.
