I was watching a television program on the History Channel which endorsed the idea of Mary Magdalene having children with Jesus, and Jesus having a continual bloodline to this day.

What kinds of resources do you think would be helpful to refute this kind of false teaching?

Can you say "The Da Vinci Code."

First, the best way, in my opinion, is to refute the so-called evidence for such an erroneous claims. The fact is there is NO HISTORICAL EVIDENCE that Jesus and Mary had children.

Second, there is nothing even remotely historical about the History Channel. It cannot be trusted as a source for reliable information.

There's really no evidence for it, nor did that program bring any real evidence to light. It is all in the realm of "could it be??"

It's a popular theory in some quarters, however, just because it's stunningly contrary to what the Christian churches have always taught.

How ironic!

I literally just watched that show the other day on YouTube. At least I think it’s the same one you’re talking about. You’re talking about the guy looking for all those symbols of freemasonry, right?

Yea, I don’t think there’s any evidence of Jesus and Mary having children together. That’s so ridiculous. Doesn’t the Bible say Jesus is our high priest? And doesn’t it say that a high priest must not marry a prostitute? And wasn’t Mary Magdalene a former prostitute?

And besides, Jesus didn’t marry ANYONE. The Bible never mentions anything like that. These television shows provide no evidence other than a bunch of freemason symbols.

I think they try to borrow something from a fragment of the gospel of Phillip or something. But it’s so fragmented, there’s no way you can get anything out of it. The gospel of Phillip isn’t trustworthy anyway, so who cares?

Wow, thanks for that.

I’ve always heard that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. But now that you mention it, I realize that the Bible doesn’t actually say that. It just says 7 demons were cast out of her.

She’s not the same person who anointed Jesus in Luke 7. Because that took place at a Pharisee’s house in the city of Nain. But when Mary anointed Jesus, that was in Bethany at Mary and Martha’s house, 6 days before the Passover.

This is really interesting. Thanks for sharing.

IMO, there's a problem in modern Christianity..... people don't seem able to SHUT UP.

Too many (it seems to me) look at their wild speculations.... perhaps see that technically, the Bible doesn't exactly contradict this, and ERGO their guess (no matter how absurd)... well... it's just gotta be true.

Do this and you'll get a lot of "hits" on your website.... you'll sell a lot of books.... lots of folks will pay big bucks to go to the movie.

Paul warned us about "itching ears" and false prophets and teachers making stuff up.

PART of the problem is people have VERY high opinions of their speculations and wild imaginations..... and people just LOVE new stuff (and the crazier, the better.... the more it seems to fly in the face of convention, the better.

Part of the solution, IMO, it's okay (even good) to note what Scriptures do NOT say. BUT that does not give each of us license to just make up shocking idiotic speculations. What is need instead is humility and community. Here's where TRADITION often can be very helpful. I;m reminded that Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would lead US (plural) - but He never said the Holy Spirit would lead just ME or Joseph Smith or Mary Baker Eddy or the Pope or Joel Olsteen or the President of the Assemblies of God... it's US... the whole church... the one holy catholic church... together. Now, I'd be the first to agree that TRADITION (no matter how universal or ancient) CAN be wrong but I agree with Luther that perhaps the "burden of proof" lies with those who think it is. I hold that Jesus never married and never had any biological children.... while admitting the Bible is largely silent on that. I hold to that because that's the witness of the church seemingly from day one and never challenged until some dude a few years back saw an opportunity to sell a whole lot of books.... he's laughing... at the gullible.... all the way to the bank.

Christ came to save His people from their sins, by dying and resurrecting, NOT for sexual intercourse.

The Church is the Bride of Christ.

People are so carnal and they try to make God carnal, too.

1# Christ is God

2# Jesue did not come to earth to do housekeeping

3# Mary did not have any children after Christ

4# Mary Magdalene was a woman with seven demons in her, the life she dedicates her life to Christ, by showing spiritually anointing of Christ and washing his feet with tears of her eyes.

5# there is no other god's before and after Him NO CHILDRENS

6# the seed of the Holy Spirit is his children in the afterlife called the resurrection of the dead to life

7# Mary Magdalene had no children with Jesus that is Hollywood

Da Vinci had it out for the Pope, being a homosexual he saw the Church as exploiting sexual guilt for profit. So he set out to leave hints in his artwork to expose the Church, as well as other not so subtle hints such as an angel giving the Pope the finger behind his back in one of his paintings (the "finger" then was to poke your thumb out in-between the index and middle finger)..

He also painted John as Mary the prostitute insisting she was the most beloved or that him and John were lovers.

The templar revelation book goes into it, a friend left it for me to read a long time ago, they claim that the Roman Church was adorned with sexual symbology and became obsessed with esoteric subliminal messages to keep members in a perpetual state of sexual guilt.. not sure about all that

According to Isa 53:8, Jesus left behind no family of his own.

I got into a LOT of trouble over at Christian Forums for saying the Bible never says if Mary and Joseph ever had intimacies.... or if Mary had other children. It seems that was/is a rule violation there.

I got into even more trouble for just asking a question of those INSISTING that it's a indisputable dogmatic fact that Mary and Joseph had such intimacies (or not) by simply asking why is this our business? Why does it matter? THAT got me fired from staff and eventually banned from the site (temporarily - it was overturned years later). A VERY touchy issue for some - for Catholics understandably but much more so for American Evangelicals. The Catholics got mad.... the "Evangelicals" got me fired and banned.

The church is Christ’s Bride, not Mary Magdalene.

On the cross, Christ made provision for His mother, but not for MM.

It’s clear for those not consumed with carnality—God in the flesh never engaged in carnality with His creation.

If Jesus had children, then how come they’re not alive today?
