Right. We fail, at times, having our fallen natures still. God is gracious toward us, with God's goodness and love. I find need to clarify what Jesus was saying what is shown in the last passage of Matthew 5, it is not that Jesus commanded us to be perfect, just as much as the heavenly Father is perfect, Jesus told us because the heavenly Father is perfect, it is meant for us to come to being perfect in the way we live. For most of us by far it is a way to live that is for us to grow to. Spiritual growth is to show the spiritual fruit, and this really includes love, the greatest. We have sins but these are to put behind us, and we would not keep sinning as much, and it should be much less. We can keep loving, and we don't have to fail in it, this is what we should grow to. There will not be sins with godly love. We are led to that, so it is not to be resisted.
To strive, to grow and mature in your walk with God, all you need to do is read the word and the spirit will hear and good works will come, forgiveness is key, forgive others and God will forgive you your sins (that no man is without).

Becoming perfect is not going to happen in these sinful bodies. That's why Jesus had to die...for those sins.

Certainly, Jesus told us these things and it for us to grow with changing to do these things more.

I agree, these things are important, and love being the greatest is important in all this.

Only the Holy Spirit can cause the change in us...our sin gets in the way to make ourselves righteous.

Yes. We who are believers want God's Spirit working in us. Apart from that there is no change for what is truly better in us. The change for what is better in us is desirable. Sin continuing is not better, sin is exactly what there should be change from, that change would be toward godliness. Let us come to God more, and grow in further having love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control.

Our Lord Jesus showed this way and it was in example for us, it is for us to follow him as believers.

We may not be aware of it now, but in the scenario of the end times before Jesus Christ returns to be king in this world, the distinction between believers and the rest of all the people who are nonbelievers will be as great as ever, it will not be as it is now where there are great differences between people on other bases but not as much between the believers and those around them. The scenario of the end times before Jesus Christ is not so far off, either, and it will be seen Mystery Babylon will fall, but it is clear in prophecy that believers then are distinct in obedience to God's commands. That would not leave some commands, such as love shown to any others, being neglected. Just as Jesus loved others and it was not different to those persecuting him, so believers would be enabled to love even when going through persecution.
