Glorious day today. A good service at church, quick lunch and before long I'll be headed out for a walk and then visiting my favorite brewpub to sample their newest releases. One of their new beers is just shy of 11% alcohol. Thankfully my wife is driving so I'll get to sample that one too.

We walked down to see the cows but they weren't outside. We did catch a glimpse of them peering through the screens from the barn though so that was fun.

Two new beers sampled. A third beer, an old favorite, also enjoyed. Then a gentle walk in the park to get some steps in. Nice to see it still warm and light at this time of the day. Tonight I plan to write an article for the church newsletter and then tomorrow I'll put a second coat of lacquer on my bedside table.

Couple of errands to run today. It's a lovely sunny day so we can get the errands run and then maybe go out for a walk later on, and then get my lacquering done.

Had my blood work done this morning and hoping my numbers are back on the sweet spot for my thyroid. I will find out later on the portal!

Got a walk in this morning while we were waiting for some stuff to come through. Going for another, longer, walk once lunch has gone down. Also picked up a book I ordered from the local store (I like to support the local bookstore, while we still have options beyond Bezos and his evil empire) and got some bills paid.

Bit of a spendy day all in. But at least now I can forget about most of it.

Finally got the second coat of lacquer onto my bedside table. It's looking pretty good now. Then I took to sanding another cabinet I have - this one has nasty old paint on it so I want the whole lot gone. It's just really slow sanding it away. So far I've got most of one end sanded, about half of the top face, and a couple of patches on one of the doors. I really wish I could get my belt sander into play against it but the paint gums up the belts very fast.

I may try running my scraper over it to break up the surface on the paint to see if that helps. It would be nice to have a mains-powered belt sander paired with a dust extractor, rather than using a battery powered orbital sander and a fan to blow dust out of the garage. It just gets really expensive if I can't find a way to stop the belts from gumming.

I went out to the county park for a long walk and spied a bald eagle! It was pretty cool because I hadn't seen any at this park before.

I see those circling when I'm out on my walks. Not all the time, but often enough to enjoy it. Sometimes it's just a hawk or two.

Today's walk was a bit slower than normal and the wildlife was nothing more interesting than a couple of turkey vultures. But I got my exercise in. The lacquer on my bedside table should be dry soon. I need to get some new screws to hold the drawer pulls in place - the ones that were there don't have very deep slots in them and scratched badly when I tried to remove them. Then it will be ready for service.

I decided to clean up the drawer pulls a little. A very gentle rub with fine sandpaper not only took away what looked like a bit of crud stuck to them but also revealed a bright brass underneath. I hadn't expected to get back to shiny brass so fast (I tried rubbing with a cloth, which made no difference at all, so tried the sandpaper), so now I'll need to clean them up more fully and run the ultrafine polishing paper over them. If I don't like the way shiny brass looks I'll need to find replacements that will work with the existing holes in the drawers. I may need to stick with the bolts that came with them, because they use a non-standard thread that is proving difficult to match. I could potentially set up the geared thread cutting rig on my lathe but that would also involve cutting replacement heads for newly made bolts, which I'm not sure I really want to be dealing with. If I have to I will but it seems like an apocalyptic hassle.

Yo sup there! How are you doing with your day so far? This morning, I’ve just been out to a most pleasant and peaceful walk, meditation, breathing exercises and yoga session outside, currently feeling like 9C. The afternoon, just enjoying my usual TV show before turning in tonight.

Got a nice walk in this morning and then spent some time trying to sand paint from my cabinet in the garage. It's tediously slow - orbital sanders aren't the fastest things out there but the coatings gum up my sanding belts quickly if I try and use something more aggressive. So the plan is to use the orbital sanders and a manual scraper to get the coatings broken up, then get the belt sander in there to strip everything else back to the bare wood. Then I need to decide whether to stain it or just lacquer it.

Taking some books to the church for the Little Free Library then hoping the Amish lady is set up on her corner so I can pick up some pies.

It's lovely and sunny today, so maybe I'll get some more sanding done. It's good when I can raise the garage door and let at least most of the sawdust blow outside. Hopefully before long I'll have enough material sanded off that I can bring the belt sander into play and really strip away the surplus material. Then I need to play moving boxes in and out of the basement - I've got an old sink in there that hasn't been used in over a decade so that can come out, which will make a space to put the new unit. I can put a nicer top on the new unit so it's nice and flat, and use it as a work surface for fixing stuff.

Nice walk today - it was very sunny but also very windy. I like wind on a day like today but my wife doens't like it so much.

Now we're waiting to find out if we can meet a friend tomorrow. If so it will be a lot of driving, but should be worth it!
