Based on the forecast I was expecting to have to clear snow this morning. What we found was a gentle dusting of snow. I'm really struggling to take "experts" in so many fields seriously just lately.

Our snow is coming tonight and tomorrow. We're supposed to get about a foot.

We were supposed to have quite a lot of snow by now. So far it looks like we've got about an inch, maybe a bit less.

We're now buried in snow. We've got at least two inches of the stuff. So much for the forecast.

I spent the afternoon pulling apart some more of the bathroom. It proved tricky, not least because everything was put together very tightly and it was difficult to get at parts of what I needed. But now I have some pipes cut off, the last of the wall around the bath pulled down, and tomorrow I can get a couple more pipe caps so I can cut off the pipes under the bath and remove the bath completely.

My friend in construction agreed to come and look at my chimney breast, which is handy. With the bath out of the way I can get at it far more easily. I'll also need to put a couple of supports in place to support some brickwork before pulling down a stud wall. It's probably not necessary as the wall I'm pulling down isn't structural but I'd rather be safe.

Hey there sup! How are you doing so far with your day? Today, I’ve just had my usual weekly 3 hours therapy session both online and by phone. Tonight, just resting in bed before falling asleep.

We got 3 inches of snow and then came the sleet. More snow to come and our internet keeps going in and out. We have a whole house generator so we'll be fine if the power goes out.

We cleared the snow this morning to get ahead of what is allegedly coming. The forecast suggested we might wake up to several inches of snow but what we actually got was maybe 2-3 inches.

According to the forecast we're due about 1/4" per hour of accumulation for the rest of the day. It's currently not snowing at all and hasn't been for an hour. But in case the forecasters do shock me by being right about something I went to the hardware store to get some bits I'll need for my bathroom destruction.

It's still snowing and my husband chose to go into work which probably wasn't a good move. Now I'm stuck with cleaning the driveway.

This morning was a surprise. The forecasters were wrong about the snow (again). Instead of "4-8 inches" it looks like we have about 2-3 inches. Do forecasters ever get it right, or are they paid to sensationalise their weather reports? It seems par for the course that they scream and howl about apocalyptic snowfall only for the reality to be little more than a gentle dusting of snow. There are enough other people endlessly crying wolf, and it seems weather forecasters are becoming just another group who are best ignored.

On a more positive note I got the bath and shower disconnected and moved out of the way. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the bathtub just yet - it's big enough that's in the way but I'm not sure where best to take it where it won't still be in the way. Although we're going to want a regular bath with shower in our primary bathroom when that gets fixed up I'm thinking I'd rather have a new bathtub than try to reuse this one and hope it fits with everything else we do. Maybe I'll just see if there's any demand for a used but perfectly useful bath and if not it can pay a visit to Mr Sawzall.

This is the first time I've ever ripped down both sides of a wall to the point I can walk between two rooms through the wall. It's not structural in any way so once I've figured out just how much space I need for a shower cubicle I can figure out how far it needs to move to make room for a shower cubicle, then make that happen. It's a weird room, not really big enough for a full bath but at some point someone put a full bath in there anyway. It means doing lots of contortionism if you want to do anything radical, like open the window or use the toilet. Getting rid of the bath and putting in a simple shower cubicle will open it up a bit, as will getting rid of the chimney if I'm correct in my belief that it's not structural.

Well they were right about how much we got in our area now that the snow is done falling (I hope!). We got about 7 inches yesterday and another 4 overnight with drifts about 10 inches high. My husband went into work and said we didn't get much...but it snowed all morning after he left so I ended up shoveling thinking it would only be 2 inches. Nope. It was awful and I should have given in and started the snowblower since we just got it repaired.

A friend of mine gauges how much snow to expect by looking at all the predictions, then taking the lowest prediction and taking off an inch or two. I've taken to doing much the same thing but regarding the number as being the maximum we're likely to get.

Once the roads are in better shape I need to get out to the hardware store to look at what sort of options I have regarding shower cubicles. The main roads are essentially clear but sometimes snow blowing across the road from the fields can make conditions treacherous. Sometimes it seems like driving on a surface that can shift from tarmac to gravel to wet ice with little to no warning.

I had originally thought to repurpose a small closet into a shower cubicle but that would mean the adjacent room lost its closet, and also make it very difficult to provide any rear access to the plumbing without leaving something very unsightly on a visible wall. If I preserve the closet it will become a little bigger thanks to moving the walls (and can also become just a little wider, given I don't need space for a bathtub beside it any more) and can contain a removable hatch so I can get at the plumbing if I ever need to fix/replace anything. I'll need to figure how best to provide access - what was previously there had a nice convenient inspection hatch but it didn't provide useful access to anything. There weren't even shutoff valves to isolate the bath/shower in case anything leaked. It turned out there is a valve to shut off the hot water but it's totally inaccessible from above and unless you are some kind of mutant with disproportionately long arms it's inaccessible from below as well.

I can see the future of that bathroom being one that contains useful plumbing, with useful valves so I can do things like shut off the sink, shut off the shower, shut off the toilet, without having a very simple all or nothing approach to it all.
