So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

The sky is overcast but the forecast is that we shouldn't get rained on. Disturbed night of sleep last night for reasons unknown, so our walk around town may be a little more sluggish than normal. Maybe coffee will help...

I worked in my garden a little bit and can't take down the fencing yet until the last 2 pumpkins are picked. One is a baby and still very green but covered in squash bugs so it might not make it. I can't put anything down to kill the bugs because we're supposed to get rain for the next 4 days.

Turned out it was a good walk. Usually when I walk with my wife our pace is slower but today she was happy with a faster pace and didn't miss our best time walking together by very much. According to my tracker my fitness level jumped today so it now says I have a fitness age of 20. I'm not sure how it measures that, and I'm not sure I'm as fit as the average 20-year-old (who would easily be young enough to be my child) but I'll take an improvement quite happily.

Since the work in the room I'm rebuilding is as good as done I took another round of demolition. There's a room with an adjacent closet but the closet is too awkwardly shaped to be useful so I'm going to break down the wall between the two and make it into a bigger room. Today's job was pulling down drywall and breaking it up into pieces small enough to go into the trash. I now have two black sacks of drywall ready to go out with my regular trash.

I was going to put it into my polypropylene bags ready to take it to the landfill but figured I'm paying for an second bag of trash each week so I might as well use it. It beats having growing numbers of big heavy bags of trash lying around until I can borrow a truck and take the whole lot to the landfill. I still need to get rid of my old burn barrel, it's rusted to the point I wouldn't want to put anything else in it. Once I can figure how best to get rid of it I can put another one in its place and then get rid of the growing pile of scrap wood that could really do with not being there any more.

Seemed like all of my clients were having a bad week last week and this week has started off better.

Taking the car in for the annual safety inspection and emissions testing. I have no idea how long this will take and they better not find anything wrong with it.

Another soupy day outside with this high humidity and big storms coming sometime so no walking outside for me. Drinking my decaf coffee and surfing the net while my daughter sleeps in.

Doing yard stuff today and found poison ivy in the front under the bushes. Glad I didn't touch it with my bare hands.

Hot sweaty day today. Went for my walk - a much slower walk than normal because neither of us was really feeling like racing around. Then we got the grass cut, I emptied out my burn barrel and cut it into pieces with my reciprocating saw. It was badly rusted, and in the process the saw blade snagged several times, to the point that by the time I was done it was bent beyond useful recovery. It was only $3, it's just a shame it got so badly bent with so little use. Now I can get the old burn barrel taken away and dumped in the local metal recycling facility and get my new burn barrel out there.

We're seeing friends on Monday - they are providing food and asked if I could provide beer. So I need to go and find some beer to take. Maybe I'll crack a cold one later this evening, you never know.

Playing a fun game of "Guess what Fedex is doing".

I ordered a parcel a few days ago and when I ordered it the status update said the estimated delivery was this coming Tuesday. When it got into the Fedex system they updated it to Thursday gone. I figured it would be cool if they could deliver it that fast but didn't expect it. Then they updated their guesstimate to Friday and then today. Their web site still says today but it was apparently last seen 100 miles away and isn't even marked "out for delivery".

So it appears Fedex customer "service" is that you stay home all day every day for a week at a time in case they care to actually deliver your parcel. I truly loathe Fedex.

OH I had a friend on FB who showed her history for a package with FedEx and at one point it said, "Did not attempt" for delivery even though it was on the truck! Outrageous.

Curiously, Fedex is the only company that manages to abide by their initial estimate and still upset their customers along the way. When they first said "estimated Tuesday 8th" I figured that was what would happen. Then they said "by end of day Sep 3" so I was looking forward to a speedy delivery. Then they said Sep 4, then Sep 5, and then around lunchtime today they said Sep 8. So we're back to where we started, except now I'm annoyed with them. Good job Fedex.

Pretty good day today. Yesterday I emptied all the ash out of my old burn barrel and got that bagged up. I was trying to figure out how to get rid of an old barrel because it was rusting through and so no good as a burn barrel any more, but big enough that I'd struggle to get it into either of our cars without spilling ash everywhere. In the end I used an ash shovel to put the ash into black sacks and then used my sabre saw to cut up the barrel. Now it will go in a car easily and a local place takes scrap metal so they can have it.

Today I drilled holes in a new burn barrel - this one is a reclaimed trash can that's sturdy enough I can bounce my weight on the rim of it when it's laid down and it barely gives at all. Now it has air holes drilled in it and is mostly full of glowing embers. I got rid of a huge pile of my scrap wood. I had planned to give it to a friend for his fire pit but got sick of looking at it, and now I have a means to get rid of it I got rid of it.
