President Trump stood on the sidewalk in front of an Episcopal Church near the White House. He was holding a Bible. Evidently, he said nothing.

It seems this angered the Episcopal Bishop VERY much! (No word from the actual pastor of the parish). She screamed about how SHE did not give Trump permission to stand on the public sidewalk!! It seems she has authority over Trump when it comes to public property in Washington, DC (I don't know why).

But he was holding a Bible. This REALLY angered her!!! She didn't say why it is SO horrible, SO terrible to hold a Bible on a public sidewalk in front of an Episcopal Church but evidently Episcopal Bishops are REALLY ticked off by holding a Bible, she was REALLY angered by it! Maybe if he was holding a Koran or some other book it would be okay? I don't know, she didn't say why it SO angered him that one would hold a Bible in front of an Episcopal Church.

Amazing.....

I confess, I have no clue WHY Trump did this. Presidents since Abe Lincoln have been REALLY into photo ops, they've all done it, but I'm not sure exactly WHAT Trump wanted to convey by this.... he said NOTHING at the time. Just curious that it SO angered, passionately so, an Episcopal Bishop that a one would stand on the public sidewalk in front of an Episcopal Church holding (OF ALL THING!) ... a Bible.

What does this say about the USA? About Christianity?

What angered the Bishop was that he ordered the police to clear away the peaceful demonstrators with tear gas and rubber bullets so that he could walk to the church and stand there with a Bible for a photo op --- what was that about? Is the man even Christian? I really don't think so. The whole thing verges on blasphemy

Don't know if it really says much about the US or Christianity but it is interesting that the media seems more outraged by Trump holding a Bible than by rioters destroying cities.

They were probably angry that he turned a church into a stage and made the bible a prop for a photo op because that's all life is to him is one big stage where everything is about the performance and the ratings afterwards which is why he goes on and on about ratings all the time.

Part of it was the treatment of peaceful protesters to clear a ways for him to do that and part of it is that as someone said it was just a photo op for him and nothing more.

Because I guess there's no reason to be angry that small business owners who have had their livelihoods taken from them by government have now had their businesses trashed by rioters. Nothing to see here, hey, there's a dude holding a Bible.

I did not hear her mention anything about that. At least the news stories I saw never included that.

She went on and on about how SHE (the Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the DC area) did not give the president her permission to stand on a public sidewalk (evidently, she rules over public sidewalks; who knew?) and her great anger that this person was holding a BIBLE (of all things) - REALLY ticked her off (although she didn't say what book he should have held rather than a Bible).

And interesting.... the press doesn't give a rip or even notice that the church behind him was torched.... THAT'S irrelevant, that couldn't matter less (not worth even mentioning)... a church being torched, SO WHAT? WHO CARES? COULDN"T MATTER LESS, not worth mentioning. But Trump not having the permission of the Episcopal Bishop to stand on a public sidewalk.... her great ANGER that a man is holding a BIBLE (horror of horrors!!!!!!) THAT'S the importance of this story that "bumped" the coronavirus pandemic off the front page, more important than the 100,000+ who have died from that in the past 10 weeks or so. No permission from the Bishop to stand on a sidewalk.... holding a Bible!

My personal impression when I was watching was that Trump was saying silently that even though the church had damage that God's Word still stands and can't be destroyed by human hands.

Exactly right. Except, of course, that it was not tear gas, the demonstrators were not peaceful, and they had refused three requests from the authorities to move back and allow the president to cross the street (not really a terribly unreasonable request, if you think on it for a moment).

This seems to go unnoticed or denied by anyone listening to CNN. My husband's family rejects that any of that happened and insist it was only a peaceful demonstration and Trump was an evil man to do anything besides tolerate it.

Interest thing going around on mass media....

It shows too pictures:
Trump holding a Bible in front of that violated, torched church on one side
Hitler supposedly holding a Bible at one of his enormous rallies on the other side.
And the caption that states this makes Trump a Nazi and/or Trump is following the playbook of Hitler.

Of course, the ONLY function if this is to inflame, enrage, divide, radicalize (which is OFTEN the function of political speak on facebook).

Thing is, Hitler was holding Mein Kampf (the book of his words) not the Bible (the book of God's Words) so the entire premise is just a lie (which is OFTEN what happens with political speech on Facebook). ANYTHING - any lie - to divide, inflame, enrage. While complaining that Trump lies and inflames.
