I know the world will not end for at least a thousand yeears as the reign of Christ has not happened. That being said I do believe that the world as we know it is radically changing and will have profound effects upon us all. Climate change is real and she is not wrong on that or the effects it will have on storms and rising sea levels

The latest news about the impending doom of the end of the world brings us Greta Thunberg. Poor kid is almost hysterical https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/23/weather/greta-thunberg-unga-climate-speech-intl/index.html

Do you think it's child abuse to spread alarmism?

Only God knows when the world will end...not the media, not Greta, not AOC.

When I was a kid I was terrified of the next ice age that was on the way. Where did it go?

Truth be told I zone out when I hear that name. I usually switch off when I see children protesting anything, especially when it's a complex issue made out to be a simple issue. Does this child who is allegedly so worried about carbon emissions travel internationally in a rowboat, or does she just join the line of people whose message boils down to "don't do what I do, do what I ay" and then wonder why they aren't taken seriously?

Obviously there are all sorts of opinions as to when it will all end. The way some talk you'd think that the earth that has supported life for untold millennia will come to an apocalyptic end within a decade unless we all vote for something like AOC's hare-brained schemes. The Babylon Bee ran an article along the lines that unless we changed our ways urgently we only had 12 years before the timelines were rewritten again. Realistically, just how likely is it for people to question what they are hearing only to then conclude that because some hyped teenager said much the same thing it must be true?

I remember in my childhood the worries were nuclear war and the threat of another looming ice age. I guess since the ice age never came the fear got rebranded. Usually people who are selling fear are trying to seize control - people who are frightened of something will often trade a lot of their freedom in exchange for having their fears taken away. I remember centuries ago someone made a pithy remark about that sort of thing.

What gets me is we have parents saying that we shouldn't be letting our kids know about our adult woes such as financial problems or other hardships but yet it's okay for the kids to stress out over something they really don't have control over?

China is the biggest contributor to what's happening to the planet so my recycling one plastic bottle isn't going to save the earth. So why are people letting kids get so filled with anxiety and try to put a guilt trip on others as if they aren't even going to have a future? Isn't that mental abuse?

It's little more than protest by proxy. If the parents are "woke" they get to use their kids to howl and wail on their behalf. You know, if you teach the kids what to think rather than how to think they can grow up to howl and wail for themselves, all the while thinking they are achieving something while they are generally ignored.

Personally I'm hesitant to use terms like "abuse" but agree that it's just another double standard where it's apparently OK to cause mental anguish to others as long as we agree with the cause behind it.

Greta is autistic and suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. No wonder she feels hopeless and alone in the world and also worries about it constantly.

Is it a good thing then that the adults that should be providing comfort are allowing her to remain in such despair?

To a suitably woke adult there is no correct course of action. If the adult provides comfort they detract from the critical message that the sky will fall within a decade unless we vote to cripple ourselves economically, and if they don't they let an anguished teenager spread more fear and angst, all the while contributing to the problem she is allegedly so worried about.

I remember watching doomsday prophecy propaganda throughout the 90s as a kid and really freaking out, my dad would reassure me that "no body knows" but tv was soo convincing likewise!
Back then I was fixated on the theories and I 100% remember always seeing fire balls shoot down from the sky, this might have had something to do with Haileys and Hale bopp comet debris (meteors) from around that era of time.. but the fear of global doom caused me to have panic attacks when I would see one!
So I know that "doomsday" scenario is the most horrifying propaganda to put on a young child, it's practically a sure win you threaten a childs life (along with the rest of the world inhabitants)... Such a cruel and sick demented tool to use on an impressionable youth especially if they suffer from a mental disorder! Poor girl, shame on her parents for encouraging such trauma for her.

Greta Thunberg is not afraid of the world ending. She is afraid of the effects of global warming if we fail to take effective action. The world will not end, it will go on. Humanity will not go extinct. We will survive in much reduced circumstances and in vastly reduced numbers. This will all work itself out over the next few hundred years. The signs are evident today. Future generations might curse us for our complacency and our failure to act.

Serious question here - what's so special about this one person? People seem to hail her as some almost Messianic figure but from what I can see it seems she's just spouting the same stuff everyone else is spouting, just from a younger mouth. She may have travelled to the US on a sail-powered ship rather than flown first class like so many others do but to be honest that looks more like posturing than much else - in the absence of a global ban on international travel it's not as if getting around on sailboats is a practical option for much travel.

Swedish teen climate activist Greta Thunberg on Thursday tweeted a parody video advertising a helpline for adults angry at her after she made headlines for her speech at the United Nations Climate Action Summit earlier this week.

In the video, produced by Australian comedian Mark Humphries, a man describes himself as "a middle-aged man with an embarrassing problem," becoming "irrationally angry at a Swedish girl who wants to save the planet."

"If you're a grown adult who needs to yell at a child for some reason, the Greta Thunberg Helpline is here to tolerate you," a narrator says, adding "It's okay. We understand that children acting like adults can make adults act like children."

"Hang in there! Help is available," Thunberg tweeted.

It's easier to coax people into believing nonsense if a child is seen as having said it. They aren't and the attempts by those to make simple that which isn't simple does no one any favors. Why all the push for this is more to do with control and wealth for a few then it is for the environment. Apparently someone should take a quick look at a history book in regards to how life was like back in the 19th century because that is where you would have to go back to if you really cared about the environment but I am certain none of these environmental types want to give up electricity or any of the toys and gadgets that depend on it to function.

BTW, the hate she is getting is really directed at her message not her though I am sure someone somewhere will spin any dissent as being against children because no one can disagree with a child and not hate them apparently.

Here's an interesting quote from her:

She acknowledged how difficult it can be to put her principles into practice. Earlier in August, when she needed to travel to Minneapolis for a three-day training sponsored by Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, she briefly considered taking the train. But, she said, “It would have taken two days and I couldn’t see taking more time away from my family.” https://www.wsj.com/articles/flight-shame-comes-to-the-u-s-via-sailboat-11567162801

So she's not really on board with her own beliefs yet because it went out of her comfort zone? Yet she'll put a guilt trip on others?

I wonder who influenced her to be so passionate about climate change? It seems unusual for a kid her age to get so upset about this issue, though I know it is important

Yay, another person burning up carbon to tell people not to burn up carbon.

It is sad the way people pushing an agenda will thrust a child to try and make a complex subject sound very simple, pushing them into a controversial adult world and then acting all offended when they draw the same kind of flak an adult would have drawn for saying and doing the same things. Of course if you're pushing an agenda and can demand that people play nicely because a child is speaking that's as good a way as any to shut down dissenting views.

But hey, if it's OK for her to take a polluting mode of transport to save time, I guess I'll fly for my vacation rather than taking the train myself. Good job.

Very true, if people aren't willing to live like the Amish they really have no business lecturing anyone else about environmental issues. It's hard to take people seriously when they claim carbon emissions will displace a billion brown-skinned poor people in third world nations but then get into their carbon-emitting vehicle so they can drive to work and sit in an air conditioned office all day.

Honestly, that would be the best thing that could happen to the Church, the True Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. For only in great distress, trouble, and tribulation, are the True Saints of God perfected.
The great bulk of the slop in our assemblies today is producing only "lukewarm" church members. God is looking for "those who overcome."
All the "global warming" and "climate change"cries , along with all the "social justice" nonsense, are only distractions designed to keep God's people from repenting of their sins.

I'm not sure that the planet heating up has much to do with lukewarmness in the church. If the church were to face persecution (and I don't mean people being told they aren't allowed to wear a little silver cross to work) it would certainly shake out those who weren't serious about their faith. The climate changing such that many currently inhabited areas become uninhabitable wouldn't be exclusive to the church - anyone living in those areas would have to relocate.
