What kind of pumpkin do you use?

Butternut usually.

Not sure if pumpkins count as squash, but this is the best thing I've ever seen done with pumpkins. I'm sure it would work just as well with any types of squash:

Oh I get it now. Haha. On halloween some kids throw the pumpkins in the street and smash them to bits. I guess they don't like them either. lol

I'm going to make a mental note of getting some squash. It's so hard, though, and I hope my big knife will cut it.

When I was 5, I helped my father carve our jack-o-lantern and we had a great time, and he told me the mess of seeds and pulp was his guts and I thought that was neat. My dad patiently explained to me each step of the process and let me be a part of each one, even though it turned a 10 minute job into an hour long affair. I was so excited when night fell and we lit the candle and put it inside the carved pumpkin and I stood back and admired our handiwork, beaming with pride.

Then a few nights later we found it smashed in the street in front of our house. I was heartbroken and could not understand why someone would come up and destroy our work. I was mad at the whole world for a minute there.

After that we put our jack-o-lanterns inside behind the front bay window. :)

Yeah, I understand the hard work you put into it and that would be sad.
