Squash

What do you like to do with squash, the vegetable that is. There is so much of it this time of year. The only problem I have with it is that it is so hard to cut. It's just too hard. That stops me from buying sometimes but I'm going to make an effort to get some butternut and spaghetti squash this season.

Hi Ruth. I use summer squash mostly. It is tender, not hard. I grill it, stir fry it, bake it, and eat it raw in salads.

Yes, summmer squash is good, too. I like it the same ways as you have described. I am having some zuchinni squash in Spaghetti sauce tonight.

Not sure if pumpkins count as squash, but this is the best thing I've ever seen done with pumpkins. I'm sure it would work just as well with any types of squash:

Punkin Chunkin. The idea is to hurl a pumpkin as far as you can with your launcher of choice. Most of the ones I saw were variations on the trebuchet although I'm led to believe some people use air cannons and other forms of catapult.

Just in case it wasn't clear, I don't care much for squash

Are those big orange pumpkins that USA folk use to make Halloween things edible? We do not eat them here, and the only folk growing them grow them exclusively folk who like the USA Halloween things. I think we have two growers in Australia.

Yes, at least the ones my grandmother used to make because I saw her using them to make the pies. Now, people use pie filling from cans, or buy the pie from a bakery.
