Feeling a bit crusty today. Eyes and nose feeling dry and sticky. I can't think why that might be. Good job I'm at church this morning because once I'm cleaned up I'm generally not wanting to get covered in crud and grime and have to get cleaned up again. The rest of the grinding, and the wall-filling, can wait until tomorrow.

Big gulps of coffee are quite funny. Unless you meant choking, which isn't anywhere near as funny :)

I don't know what I was thinking! I'm still feeling the effects in my throat though...can I drown from coffee choking?

Maybe you just wanted to make light of a situation?

There's no reason why you couldn't drown in coffee but I suspect you'd have to try hard. It reminds me of the story of the Scotsman who drowned in a vat of whisky. It took a long time for him to drown, partly because he had to get out a couple of times to go to the bathroom and then he had to fight off his mates who were trying to save him.

Another long stint in the dust and the grime.

I had to postpone the grinding because I open a window to blow the dust out with a box fan and as soon as I opened the window the wind started to blow the weather in, including the dust I'd just blown out. So I got busy chiseling out the rest of the mortar joints that were damaged by the angle grinder and refilling them with fresh mortar.

After lunch the weather eased off a bit so I could get the fan running, and ran the grinder in a load more spaces. I knew most of the work was done in the previous stint but today there was more left than I realised . Now I'm done with most if not all of the grinding in that room. The final check will be when I come to fit the insulation panels, but I need some work done on the roof first. I'll pay someone to do that, I don't feel like working at that kind of height on something I'm not familiar with doing. Now I just need to give it a day or two to let the rest of the dust settle, then run the shop vac in there and from there I can do the rest of the work more or less at my leisure. I still need some more cementing done - where the brickwork was done to a low standard the angle grinder has highlighted a few areas where the mortar needs some TLC. The biggest gaps are filled, but I suspect I'm going to be creating a few more before I'm done.

And now I'm cleaned up ready for dinner.

Feeling strange. So I had to clean the big oven today at work (while it was on) and because we were out of oven cleaner I had to use degreaser, and that ran out so I had to use restroom cleaner (managers suggestion)... I ended up telling my manager I will have to finish it tomorrow because the restroom cleaner fumes got to me... yeah it's basically free basing because the oven is cooking the chemicals which I am inhaling, not doing that ever again. Tomorrow I am doing it before they turn on the oven if I have to use non oven cleaners.
Oh and funny twist, I had to do a 20 minute online program on using chemicals just before I left lol... but yeah I have gotten sick off of work related chemicals at other jobs and it's never fun, I'm bringing a face/dust mask tomorrow just in case.

Document everything. Those chemicals and inhalents can be carcinogenic. Having documentation for workmans comp is important.

Got a bunch of gaps in the mortar cleaned out and packed with cement, and ran the shop vac in the room with all the dust again. There's not much fresh dust settling in there now - most of it is already on the floor or other flat surface.

Then I heard the sound of shovels so went outside to help clear the driveway. There was quite a bit of snow so our neighbor used the snow blower. Usually we don't use that because it means throwing snow at one of our houses but when there's this much of it we just figure throw it high so it doesn't hit anything too hard.

This afternoon I spent some time rejigging some code I wrote. What's there now works just fine but it's based on a dated code model. I figured there's a better way of doing it. I want to approach the manufacturer of the hardware with a view to selling my suite of code directly to their customer base, so want it to be as tight and clean as possible. Once it's in a reasonably viewable state I'll make the initial approach, I just don't want their first thought to be "it works but it's a bit sloppy".

You shouldn't be mixing chemicals! Don't listen to them next time. You could cause really toxic fumes to be released or maybe an explosion to happen!

The oven cleaner and degreaser is approved for hot surfaces but yeah I really really doubt that the restroom cleaner is to be used as such, I noticed that quickly and stopped, they should know better for even suggesting it.

At the very least know what's in the chemicals to have an informed opinion on whether they are safe to mix. You'd be surprised just what kind of nasty combinations you can make starting with the kind of thing many places have sitting around in bottles.

Went to the doctor yesterday and he said I have bronchitis. I'm on 3 different nasal sprays and two prescription medications and some other stuff. I don't have a fever, but feel really run down. I'm still trying to work, but it is making it hard

Up quite late last night fiddling with code. Curious situation, a piece of software I'm writing for a client needed some functionality they weren't keen to fund, but I figured it could be useful in other projects so I said I'd develop that on my dime. Once it was working I figured the potential market for it was bigger than I first thought, so revised it to make it as generic as possible. Last night I was cleaning up some of the rough edges and adding a couple of new features to it. It still needs a little cleaning up but once that is done I can incorporate the new code into the existing software and, once I'm happy it all works well, talk to a few other places that might be interested in licensing it.

My immediate thoughts when I decided to write it on my dime were that I could fit it into enough other projects that I'd get an adequate reward for coding it, but now I'm thinking I might hit that magic payback date earlier than originally expected. Which would be nice.

Now I'm pondering whether to spend the day playing with computer stuff or cutting up insulation panels. Maybe I'll do some panels and then some code.

Banana bread sounds a lot tastier than the FAQ.

I'm trying to muster the mental energy to do some more grinding. Having tested as best I could with an offcut it's inevitable there are a few isolated patches in the brickwork that are slightly proud, that only become visible when trying to actually fit a piece of insulation into the space. Hopefully I won't need to do any more mortaring following the grinding - it's really tedious having to wait for mortar to dry before I can fit panels.

Tonight we're hosting our Bible study group, which means I'm leading the study. We're almost ready for that, just need to avoid making too much mess so there's not so much cleaning up to do before people arrive. Running an angle grinder over concrete and "avoid making too much mess" are slightly uneasy bedfellows.

The FAQ won't require me to do an extra workout though LOL

Tell you what. I'm going to make a huge sacrifice for you. Send me the banana bread, and I'll do the post-eating workout on your behalf.
