Need to run an few errands. Mentally preparing myself for what promises to be the mother of all dust baths - I need to rearrange the furniture in another room, tape up drawers, cover everything in dust sheets, and then produce the biggest mess of the project so far.

I had planned to do this job further down the line but a lot of the mess is going to end up in the room I'm doing most of my work in, so I figure I might as well do the messy job now and get it done so I don't have to worry so much about trying to contain the mess. It's just going to take me a while with the shop vac to clean it all up again. At least with my new grinding wheel it will be fast.

Did your wife appreciate the grinding wheel? LOL oh no, that came off sounding really raunchy. Not intended to be in a bad way!

I think she liked it more than the latest Apple offering I was thinking of getting for her. Of course I'm talking about the iRon.

She certainly appreciates the fact she doesn't have to use it. She's not looking forward to the mess I'm going to make but even so she's thankful she's not the one getting covered in dust. With all the hoo-hah about blackface these days I'm almost afraid to go outside once I've been working because aside from panda-eyes where my safety goggles go and a patch around my mouth and nose where my respirator goes, the rest of my face is usually a very dark gray.

Hoping I don't need to replace my oil tanks. A few weeks back we had a blockage that meant one tank emptied while the other did not. They are very old tanks so it's probably only a question of time. I'm trying to figure how much oil it's worth storing in the house. Part of me rather likes the idea of being able to store enough to get through an entire winter and being able to call the local suppliers once a year and inviting them to offer the best price for a single monster fill-up. But then there's something to be said for a fixed payment plan so I don't need to put up all the cash at once.

I didn't get to grind my room today. I felt generally sluggish and unmotivated and figured it wasn't a good mental state to be working on such filthy tasks. But I have got the room mostly prepared. The closet door is taped up, there are a couple of units that are too heavy to move that have all the drawers taped up and are covered with dust sheets, I've got just about everything that's readily moveable out of the room and a couple of sacrificial bed sheets in there ready to use to stop dust getting under the door.

Tomorrow I need to get my shop vac, ladder, angle grinder and protective equipment up there, then I can get busy with the grinding. I will probably have to do it in phases because I fear there are some bricks that will end up with no mortar around them at all on the inside. That doesn't seem like a good place to be, so I may well end up doing the job in multiple passes so I can clear away the nasty mortar, clean up the area, pack it with fresh mortar and then grind away the nasty mortar from the other side.

I really don't want to do this job but it won't do itself.

Where does the term "lent" come from anyway? It kinda sounds like should clean it out of the dryer.

Old English. It's supposed to sound a little off if it's Old English.

Today's fun was six hours alternating between grinding concrete, spraying air to get the dust off the concrete, and sucking up concrete dust in the shop vac. I got almost all of the grinding work done but decided to quit because the light was fading and I decided to stop before I started to make mistakes. The tool I'm using is a concrete grinding wheel on an angle grinder, so a mistake could mean nasty damage to a concrete block or very nasty damage to me.

I think I turned about 20lb of concrete into dust. Then it took me half an hour in the shower to get it all out of my hair and off me. It was pretty grim.

There's still a small amount left to do but I think when the last bit is done I'm done with grinding until I get into the next room that needs major work. I thought my battery had packed up but it turned out to have just got sticky because of the dust. I picked up a couple more batteries. I've got loads of 20v batteries but before today only had one battery for my 60v angle grinder. Now I have three batteries, which means I can chop and change between them. That means I don't have to wait 90 minutes for the battery to charge if I run it into the ground again. Today I emptied two batteries, so it's worth having a spare.

Big gulps of coffee are quite funny. Unless you meant choking, which isn't anywhere near as funny :)
