It wasn't a repentance unto salvation.

The Baptism of John unto Repentance is not UNTO Salvation???

It is the opening of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by His Forerunner John...

You think it is unto damnation with all the rest of the Mullahs???

I thought you were a Christian!

John preaching Repentance in the Wilderness IS PREPARING the Way of the Lord!

Or do you not believe the words of the Bible??

"Make straight the Way of the Lord!"

The baptism of John was the Old Testament baptism or purification ritual. Not a baptism unto salvation, since it takes faith for salvation to occur.
John didn't say 'believe and be baptized '. He said repent and be baptized

Does that come from the EO handbook of dogma?

It comes from your own accusing finger...

Your fist with which you point your finger of accusation...

It has three fingers pointing straight back at yourself...

Rom 14:10
But why dost thou judge thy brother?
Or why dost thou set at nought thy brother?

Rom 14:13
Let us not therefore judge one another any more:

Whenever you point your finger of accusation, you have three witnesses against you...

The baptism of John was the Old Testament baptism or purification ritual.

Where is it found in the Old Testament?

In the Marriage at Cana, they used jars of water for their purification ceremonies...

Ritual cleansings throughout the day...

John came preaching a new Gospel of Jesus Christ:

Be ye repenting! For the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!

Christ IS the Kingdom of Heaven...

John didn't say 'believe and be baptized '.
He said repent and be baptized

He said "Be ye repenting"...
His very Baptism was UNTO Repentance, that people so baptized would be repenting...
His Baptism is a part of the "Elementary Doctrine of BaptismS..." mentioned by Paul...

The Call of God is unto Repentance...

And Repentance is unto Justification...

And Justification is unto Glorification...

John's message is to Israel. It is not the gospel of grace. It is not a repentance unto salvation. He was addressing the chosen people. He was simply telling Israel to turn from their path and back to God.
You are trying to force legalism into the church, which Paul tells us is anathema.

Aresenios, I am flat out saying your teaching is not grace, but works. You are wrong. You have been told this by more than one person here. Your faux finger complaint is as illegitimate as your theology.

So, I am right. It's from the EO dogma, not God's word.

==============================================================================================

Post #625 (Me):
I request of Josiah that he direct us to the Scripture which tells us that:
- Abraham's belief (faith) was a free gift from God;
- That he had the Holy Spirit;
- And that he was actually directed by that Holy Spirit.

The meaning of any and all Scripture quoted must be true to that in the original language(s) (rather than assigning meanings that can be read into the English translations, but which are untrue to the original – a practice that is demonstrably ingrained in some religious environments).

Post #626 (MennoSota):
Is faith a gift from God to the elect? Ephesians 2:8 says yes.

Post #642 (Arsenios):
No it doesn't...

It says that Salvation is the Gift of God...

==============================================================================================

Arsenios is absolutely correct.

The Greek grammar in Ephesians 2:8 shows conclusively that the “that not of yourselves” cannot possibly relate to the word “faith”, but to the word “saved”.

Unlike English, in many languages nouns have assigned gender (male, female, as well as neuter in some). French, German, Latin and Greek are examples. Adjectives and pronouns are constrained to have the same gender as the nouns to which they refer. In this case, the “faith” is feminine and the “that” is neuter. The neuter indicates that the “that” refers to the preceding verb (“saved”).

I did counsel in Post #625 (see above) against invalid meanings being read into Holy Scripture.

==============================================================================================

All Readers are now aware of the true meaning of Ephesians 2:8. Being saved is God’s gift to Mankind. We can do nothing to merit it. But the God-defined mechanism for receiving that gift, is a personal response of faith – a personal, self-motivated response.

However, a certain cherished belief relies on the much-promoted, invalid interpretation of Verse 8. So can we expect to see from here on in, a cessation of its misuse?

Exodus 29:1-9 “Now this is what you shall do to them to consecrate them to minister as priests to Me: take one young bull and two rams without blemish, 2 and unleavened bread and unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers spread with oil; you shall make them of fine wheat flour. 3 You shall put them in one basket, and present them in the basket along with the bull and the two rams. 4 Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tent of meeting and wash them with water. 5 You shall take the garments, and put on Aaron the tunic and the robe of the ephod and the ephod and the breastpiece, and gird him with the skillfully woven band of the ephod; 6 and you shall set the turban on his head and put the holy crown on the turban. 7 Then you shall take the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him. 8 You shall bring his sons and put tunics on them. 9 You shall gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and bind caps on them, and they shall have the priesthood by a perpetual statute. So you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.

Numbers 8:6-8 “Take the Levites from among the sons of Israel and cleanse them. 7 Thus you shall do to them, for their cleansing: sprinkle purifying water on them, and let them use a razor over their whole body and wash their clothes, and they will be clean. 8 Then let them take a bull with its grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil; and a second bull you shall take for a sin offering."

Arsenios, I am flat out saying your teaching is not grace, but works.

I am arguing for the Gospel of Grace...
Through the works of the Faith...
Because Faith without works is DEAD FAITH...
Remember??

"For by Grace are ye Saved...
Through the Faith...
and this not out of yourselves...
Of God the Gift...
"

Did you mention "flat out saying"??

I prefer flat our sailing, myself! :)

So, I am right.

I am sure you are convinced to your own satisfaction of your rectitude...

No, you are not presenting the gospel of grace. You add works onto the gospel and thus make it the gospel of the law, which is no gospel at all.

You add works onto the gospel

You said true faith engenders works...

That any faith without works is dead faith...

The works of faith therefore are what is mandated...

But only if you connect the dots...

You can always close your eyes...

And once again, you add a big butt, which is why your message is law and not grace.

You are right here - Ritualized sprinkling and washing are pretty sissie usages of water compared to total immersion in the living water of the Jordan River... John was not simply acting according to Moses' Levitical observances...

The washing of the Levites unto purification of them for the Priesthood is magnified in the cleansing of Christians unto the Royal Priesthood of the Body of Christ...

Self deprecation is perhaps one way to not connect the dots...

Not an option I would exercise, mind you...

But hey!

You are deflecting from the fact that you always add a "but" to the gospel of grace. In so doing, you nullify grace and make it law.

It is unlikely that the deep-theology-state-of-mind induced by Calvinism is easily abandoned so no, it is not likely that the misuse of Ephesians 2:8 will happen.
