As long as I can. We purchased this home 6 years ago with the idea of being here as long as we can. One level which is perfect for these knees of mine.

My husband and I were having this conversation this morning! The answer is that we don't really know for sure. I've been checking out some homes near water, like on a lake or at the beach, and for what we can afford, those homes need massive updating. I don't know if I'd be happy having to do that all over again.

I really want a ranch house because what if we can't do the stairs when we get older?

Those things that you sit on and ride up the stairway look pretty good, but I don't know anybody who has one.

My mom has one. My dad couldn't walk anymore, so he got one, but he never used it and had to go to a home and she may not live there. My mom uses it now. It's very handy.

The house has to have certain specifications in order to make that work. Our current house does not have a big enough landing on either top of bottom to accommodate a chair, unfortunately. We have a center hall colonial and the door opens right into the stairway. I don't know why they build houses like that.
