I think immediately since it is the connection between body and spirit and man is a triunity. Can't imagine first the body, then the soul.

Genesis: 2. 7. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Ephesians: 1. 3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4. According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5. Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.
There are 2 ways to look at this passage from Ephesians, one way is to assume that God only chose a elect.
The correct way is to understand God intended that all be in Christ yet being made in his image we have free will.
God is no respecter of persons,yet in the literal sense our spirit was there from the beginning.
So when God breathed life into man he breathed the Spirit of the man who became a living soul in the temporal realm.
