There are 2 ways to look at this passage from Ephesians, one way is to assume that God only chose a elect.
The correct way is to understand God intended that all be in Christ yet being made in his image we have free will.
God is no respecter of persons,yet in the literal sense our spirit was there from the beginning.
So when God breathed life into man he breathed the Spirit of the man who became a living soul in the temporal realm.
