No Christmas tree for us this year. Partly the house is in a state of flux with all the renovations and partly because I fear what would happen when the cat and the tree came together. Maybe next year I'll get one of the fiber optic things that doesn't need endless time hanging baubles all over it but does look festive.

A little table top LED Christmas tree would be nice :)

I usually put ours up in early December, although I have always liked the idea of keeping Advent in its proper place and not squeezing it out by going immediately from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

WE have a small tabletop ceramic one in the dining room, and an even smaller tabletop one we use as a night light in the bathroom this time of year. I never really think of them as "the Christmas tree" because for me a "Christmas tree" needs to be bigger. The sort of thing that's taller than I am, ideally.

Seems like there is a happy medium to this.

Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans, some Methodists and a few other denominations.

Yes. It's normally "done" at home with family members reading from the Gospels or Epistles that are appointed for the Sundays in the four weeks preceding Christmas.

<snip>

But my wife's tradition is that it goes up soon after Thanksgiving... and together we've adopted that. AND also the Advent Wreath tradition. We can't decide what season it is, lol

Yeah right. Like there is a second option once we're married :pound:

I have a small metal frame 'tree' with pewter wolf ornaments that I'll be displaying (table-top), along with some "Jim Shore" figurines and other knick-knacks. It may all go out next week or so.

Pretty, why a wolf theme? They are attractive animals.

My mom had ordered one set, and I had been rather envious of it - the style and shading. The ornaments themselves are rather dense and heavy - well made. She had the second set at her home for some time, but hadn't given it to me until a few years ago. Mom's are strange ;)
As far as the wolves, I guess I was just struck by the detail and shading.

We wait until Advent begins before we put up the tree, and if Advent begins early, we wait until at least 1 December. (I know that as a good Anglican, I shouldn't be putting it up until after the Fourth Sunday of Advent, but it's too pretty to wait that long. Also, it would be a logistical nightmare this year, with the Fourth Sunday of Advent and Christmas Eve falling on the same day.) Of course, it has to come down by Epiphany. However, the Nativity scene stays up so that the Magi can spend at least a day there. Currently, Mary and Joseph are hanging out in the stable with the ox and ass, waiting for her to be delivered on Christmas Eve, and the lonely shepherd is off in the fields with his small flock of two sheep. The Baby Jesus, the Angel of the Lord, and the Magi are waiting in another room for their grand entrance on their appointed days. :) We've never had an Advent wreath at home, but we do have one at church. As a devotional thing, we always change our dining room table candles to whatever the liturgical colour of the day happens to be, so they are violet right now, but that's an all-year thing that we do in our home.
