appease people who feel bad that they dont actually preach the gospel to any one.

. it is a paraphrase of a small PART of what he said , quoted out of context .
for he was a man known to stand on stairs ,boxes and any platform he could find and from which to loudly preach the Gospel and every opportunity .
all he was saying is that he expected those who also did so,, to make sure the lives they lived matched the words they preached .. he never intended it to be used as a means by which to excuse any one from the preaching of the Gospel .
as that would be to directly oppose the great commission.
