Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. - 1 John 3:4

A little ASV for you.

Where does the bible say "all sin is lawlessness"?

I don't see that little word all in your quote from the bible. You did notice that it is that little word that I asked you about?

Romans 14:23 "... For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin."

The OP has a nice starter list, but this is a simple biblical definition. :)

I extrapolated. It's inferred.

True. But I've heard folks on here limit sin to the Ten Commandments. So they think that either they don't sin, or they don't sin that much.

Yes, it is a nice definition. It is like the one in 1 John 3:4 but it speaks of faith instead of lawlessness.

Yes, you did do that didn't you. Extrapolated. Inferred. Imported an idea into the passage that isn't actually in it.

Perhaps. Can you name one sin that isn't lawlessness?

Oh, why would I need to do that? I am more than happy with the scripture as it stands. "sin is lawlessness" is what it says in English and that is sufficient. No need to add "all" or list sins. Such casuistry is more what one expects from Pharisees than from Christians.

So you're just splitting hairs. Okay.

So John says sin is lawlessness. He says all lawlessness is sin. But heaven forbid we say all sin is lawlessness because that makes us Pharisees, apparently.

Well, the first commandment is something none of us keep, so the others are automatically broken.

More a case of avoiding garden paths that you want to lead me down :)

I tried to engage you in the OP, which you refused. So whose path are we going down?

For sure. But some folks won't admit it.

Do you think that Job kept the law that was applicable in his time and culture? Or Enoch?
